Netflix Canada lanched today....

Signed up for the trial - the selection is reasonable (not as good as the US version obviously). There's certainly enough there to keep me amused whilst they add more....

What I've noticed is that playback is choppy when I watch it using my mac (which is under the TV), but it's really smooth on the PS3.

How old is the mac? Could it be struggling with HD? Also, I don't think the Microsoft Silverlight (which it uses) implementation is very good on OSX - no surprises there!

It's not that old. A couple of years. The PS3 is better anyway as it's got a proper interface that I can use with a remote.

We're really impressed with it, especially on the PS3 and the laptop. The little Mac book runs it well too. Big to the guys who have made it finally available here.
If it works well on one device but not on another, it's likely just a system issue, rather than a problem with Netflix or the internet service...For example, Alan's Mac, although "under his TV" might be inadvertently connected to his neighbour's dial-up connection rather than his own network.

I always feel intimidated by these things. How do I get it off the computer and on to the telly?

I can't see an option for it but found this on their website, published over a year ago...
http://blog.netflix.com/2009/06/clos...subtitles.html
Some foreign movies are available though with their original sound format and [previously] added subtitles.

So really they haven't set up anything for deaf and hard of hearing customers.

In short - totaly agree having also taken the 8 buck + tax plunge. We have been running Netflix for a week.
First impressions, not bad overall, hell even very good.
There is certainly more available than I first thought - based on the initial web page which says something like "watch more like these" as you click on a category and not showing all that is available within a certain category. For instance, clicking the TV category will expand into it quite a few sub categories including Brit comedies and Brit drama!
Playback setup...we use a wireless Acer Revo mini computer using wireless n. Playback is perfect via HDMI to the TV and we also have the surround sound pumped into the home theater again with no problems via an optical link. http://www.pauljroberts.com/acer-asp...ion-330-review
To save bandwidth while figuring that aspect out in relation to our 60GB Rogers allowance, we don't watch in HD. Having said that, I can't see much of a difference between the two anyway...both are very crisp and clear.
We will be keeping Expressvu but there is more than enough on Netflix to supplement Bell and they seem to add more stuff each day.
So for now...seems worthwhile. Two x

Re: Netflix Canada lanched today....
so far on the free trial month , i'm finding it pretty good. The streaming works well on the PS3 and the ipad. Ben also says it works fine on the iphone ( I haven't tried it yet)
Its really good for some old UK classics ( Yes minister etc) but I'm getting a little frustrated that a lot of the films I search for ( both new and old ) are " unavailable". I know it has to do with distribution rights but it is a bit of a pain.
Hopefully it will get better with time.
