You guys (and Mrs M) have had me laughing out loud here... ha! Funny and informative at the same time.
I too am trying to find that 'ideal' place to move me and my family out too.
Don't fancy anywhere with squiggly diggly (or whatever it was) music... or anywhere too basic... ha!! I am still laughing at some of your posts.
We have some strange places to 'avoid' over here in the UK... although it's the gold wearing pastie eating chavs you have to watch out for here in the midlands... ha!

Someone earlier on mentioned Montreal, which was my first thought too.
It has the culture bit for sure and some good universities as well. I'm not an expert, but there must be english-speaking areas and french speaking areas that peoplem on here could recommend according to your language ability.

Slept on it, and still really liking the idea of Ontario, I have a lecturer who moved from there to hear, so I'm going to quiz him about his motivation and satisfaction with the move.
The places I am specifcally looking at, and need more info about are Brampton, London, Hamilton and the one that seems very pretty etc Kingston........
Some cmon dudes, tell me what you know, don't leave me trailing round the internet for months and months!!!!!!
Hope you are all having a great weekend, we have woken up to some serious rain here in the Bridge, and do you know what - I forgot how much I miss it lol! (But not that much!!)
Thanks again

Don't go anywhere in a lake effect snow zone. I don't know where these places are because I always have too many tears of laughter in my eyes when they show them shovelling their houses out on the news...

Have you look at London, Ontario
Big uni, has everything there, also Port Stanley is a short drive away through St Thomas, well worth a look if you need to be near the Uni
I have to admit kingston would be my first choice, but for different reasons

Know some cheap rentals in both towns if you are taking a trip down that way

CMON dudes help me out here, what do you know about Kingston Ontario - after many hours of research that's where on paper seems really quite decent? Or am I mad and deluded?

Anyway we were in Kingston on an Ontario recce in Oct '04. I have to say IMHO i didn't like it. The exit we took off of the motorway took us to the worst, scraggy & run down end of town. (same thing happened in Vancouver)
That first impression has always stuck, sorry (you probably don't like me now
)We couldn't get a room at a hotel we had earmarked and the receptionist was really rude. We decided we didn't like the town enough to pursue any other hotels so we drove along to Gananoque which was beautiful but was little more than a tourist town.
We are also in AB and i know what you mean about missing the sea.

We were offered a job back there etc, but in the end after holidaying back there and taking a lot of thinking time, know that this is where we want to be, but neither myself of my husband are prairie livers........so think a bit more fine tuning is needed until we feel at home.
We love Lethbridge but just don't enjoy being so far away from anything cultural, cosmopolitan or wet lol! More to the point, Ontario would leave us mortgage free...........so that's always a big motivator!!!!!

Mrs M, do you have to live in a city? there are plenty of nice places around there too.
you could maybe afford a waterfront place too
