Ours went down from maybe 8 a day to one a month using TPS. I always threatened with reporting them and by the end it trickled to maybe one every three months

It's September 30th and you can now put your phone number on the list.

I was reading the news this morning and it seems that because so many people have accessed the web site it had crashed.

Did my number about half an hour ago - I know it takes 30 days to at least start coming into effect - but I've had two calls already in that time - I've had 7 calls in the last 24 hours !!!

I just ignore the 866 and 1-800 numbers now - and even when I do pick up, I do not speak and they are often silent - presumably an automated call to see when we are in?

There are still quite a few exceptions to this system - but anything to reduce the volume of calls is welcome. I think Capital One have finally got the message after me being distinctly rude last time (touches wood, fingers crossed, etc).

From what I heard there are a lot of people excluded from that list and they are mostly the people that call you anyway!!! If it worked like the UK one it would be great.

A good way to handle these automated calls is to answer and just be silent. You will hear a human eventually get to you and start their schtick but just remain silent (and try not to laugh at their "hello, hello, is anyone there?!" ).

Make sure they hang up first as it puts your number on a 'waste of time' list. I went from having several calls like this a day to none in a matter of a couple of weeks.

I kept getting error messages but with "back", "refresh" and "resubmit" a few times I got the "successful" message.

Here's hoping!

I put us on the list last night no problem. One call I keep getting now though is for someone trying to get through to a fax machine! We had this problem in the UK where a company had published our tele number as their fax machine, it was just one digit out. We would come home and our answer machine was full of bleeps. Out one day out I saw a lorry and just noticed in all the telephone numbers that their fax number was our home number all bar one number being different so I rang them up and complained and they to give them their due amended the offending documents with our number on.

I'm going to add my number also - working from home when the phone rings I always think it's a client or the office calling so rush to the phone. I've set up caller display now so when I see an odd number I just stick the phone beside my ipod speakers and play them a little hold music.
