As somebody who has spent years in Richmond, the population is diverse and the demographics vary depending on where you are in Richmond. There is, of course, one part of Richmond where there are a lot of Chinese/Taiwanese/Hong Kong style restaurants, shopping plazas, and supermarkets, but not all of Richmond is like that.
Here's a good breakdown of the demographics.

Going back to the OP, I do think that Richmond would make the most sense. It is an island in the middle of the Fraser River. Beautiful views from the dyke trails and farmland to the east of the city. There is certainly urban sprawl in parts of Richmond, but there are also many parts, like the Google Street View I linked to above, are fairly established, beautiful residential communities with lush gardens and good schools - a wonderful place to raise a family. The nicer areas (aesthetically) are in Western Richmond, I've found (off No 1 Road). No need to live further away if you don't have to. Commuting to/from Richmond isn't fun because of all the bridges. Bridges = bottlenecks. Richmond to Maple Ridge, for example, would be my idea of a nightmare.

Good PDF Lychee.
Central Richmond (City & Cambies) looks 60% Chinese to me. And that's not counting other Asian ethnicities. Roughly 80,000 Chinese in a region of 180,000 people means it is predominantly Chinese. As originally suggested.

But when that data is expressed as fractions of 100% the total of yellow skins comes to 51.7%. 43.6% identifying as of Chinese origin. 34.2% white and only 8% as Indo-Canadians. It seems a lot more now.

It can certainly feel that way if you shop at the north end of No.3 road. However, there is more to Richmond than No.3 road.

JonBoy if was over there I would take you for lunch at Aberdeen Mall, and you would see that 99.9% of the people in the mall are Asian (or what you seem to term "yellow")! Granted one mall is not Richmond, but most of No. 3 Road is similarly balanced. As I am sure you know!!

Then they put that ugly concrete monstrosity of a Skytrain track right down the main area. Beautiful British Colombia my arse.

I really want to check out the Aberdeen Mall and the night market.

Well if it's not majority Chinese, it's pretty damn close. Of course I am including Chinese-Canadians in that bracket.
