Depends on what you're used to. Personally, I love Chilliwack, but there are some areas to be avoided, as with everywhere else. A lot of development on Indian Lands these days, so lots of leasehold properties - not a great investment. But away from there, nice family areas, good access to freeway, shopping's not too bad but you can go further to Abbotsford or the US for shopping very easily. I'm planning on moving to Sardis which is right next-door to Chilliwack, once we get our house sorted and sold.

Hi There Channings,

We visited Sunshine Coast two weeks ago and met a great couple from Chilliwack, they were sooo nice they invited us to visit them in Chilliwack to have a look around before making our decision on where to bring up our family. After looking at the areas in Sunshine Coast then going to Chilliwack I felt deflated. Its down to personal preference and what you are looking for, personally I didn't like it, there were plenty of places within driving distance to shop and had some good points but it was not for us. Whilst we were there the locals were telling us about two rival gangs that were trying to entice their son in to their group and due to peer pressure the parents decided to send him away for a while. I dont know how try it all was, but I didn't want to bring my boys up in that environment.

Good luck

The Chanceys

Not sure about these gangs, there are likely some around, we have never encountered this problem. Nowhere is immune from the problem, if kids mix in the wrong circles wherever you are they are going to get into trouble. Our girls are doing very well here.

Before moving from Abbotsford to Chilliwack we looked at the sunshine coast, waterfront property at Roberts Creek. I had traveled the coast on business many times, so we thought about living there. Quaint community - too much out on a limb for us. Great for vacations, but could not stand the ferries all the time to get off the peninsula. We chose Chilliwack and like it very much, out in the country yet we can access all the major areas we need to get too easily.

To help situate things where are you considering going to....?

Thumbs up Re: Moving to Chilliwack

Hi

Best thing to do is check it out yourself. I personally prefer Sardis, I agree about the shopping, it is not as good as Abbotsford but it is more than adequate for day to day needs, and when Abbotsford airport is finally truly international, as I am told is planned, I personally would not like to live around there.

My cousins' kids all go to the new high school , sorry can't remember the name, and they love it.
There is a fairly large expat community, if that's what you are after.

If you want countryside you have the beautiful Colombia Valley on your doorstep, last time we visited there we saw 3 seperate families of deer and come lovely views. That's where we are aiming for eventually

I like Sardis but then that's where my family live, in the end the best way is to "suck it and see"

I hope all goes well for you
