What made you decide to move there?

Good luck to every one - Louise
Hi louise

We were advised by our immigration lawyer not to sell until we had the WP - understand where she was coming from but dont think she understands the uK property market.

It is very frustrating but you get on with it - anyway am going for a visit May 25th for two week and it will be 16 weeks since we were al together.

1.What to take with us, furniture etc
2.Is it the right decision!
3.Telling family, and leaving family
4.When to go
5.How to speed up house sale here

I am interested in what your top 5 issues or hardest things to sort out are?

Good luck to every one on the move
Louise

In no particular order-

1. Trying to justify spending £3,750 to get all our stuff/junk shipped to Canada or should we just buy new when we land? (we decided to ship)

2. Timing my resignation with the completion date on our house (pending)

3. Worried about landing in Vancouver with a suitcase and nothing else (until our stuff arrives)

4. Haven't even looked for a job yet in Canada, should I be? (after all who is going to offer me a job when I am in the UK)

5. Worried that my children (will be 4 and 11) will not settle in Canada.

Other than that, things are going great...

Hi Danny,
4. Haven't even looked for a job yet in Canada, should I be? (after all who is going to offer me a job when I am in the UK)
In our experience they wouldn't take us seriously until we were actually living there. Depends on how much your vocation is in demand though....
For us it was good reality check to see what was available. Understanding the different terminology and what skills they required for our relevant work was useful. It helped in revamping the CV to "resume" and adding in different words our new Canadian employer's could relate to. We checked the HRDC site to get the job description for the type of work we were doing then transferred our skills into same language used on job description it helped a bit. The thing about doing this in advance is it gave us some purpose, and is something we thought would be hard to do, once we arrived without having our familiar PC / printer office set up.

Best Wishes Louise

Your list sounds very similar to mine, and lots of other peoples I'm sure.
It does feel like a risk to leave life in the UK, to head off to another country with no job and kids in tow. But people are doing it all of the time and I'm sure in the long term it will be a better life. At least we're hoping so....
Good luck with your move.

Yes it is a worry, but you have to remain optimistic and just hope for the best really.
