#76
UK weather yesterday lovely spring day sun shinning even managed to get grass cut! Mild an grey today. Sounds like weather there fierce something going to have to get used to. Although not looking forward to my husband being out in bad conditions, then yet again road conditions here not greatest with accidents in traffic. Well we'll see how it goes.

Sure that's least of my worries my husband eating himself into early grave eating fry ups. Maybe he'll loose few lbs. Not sure all English truckers D shaped an looking for early grave. Think I'll miss the so called fry up than he will, but guess I can always pop over to in laws in Denver an visit Waffle House.

Hi, I am also a trucker and have had a similar experience to what you are about to go through (Im not the 1st and wont be the last)
Long story short I wanted to move here for years but due to various set backs was unable to do so until 2010. Got a job got a visa and got on a plane. I came alone 1st to get settled with job place to live etc. My fiance followed 7 weeks later.....all going well and good at this point.
I should point out that I run long haul - all over Canada and the US and can be away upto a fortnight at a time, if your Hubby will be working for Loblaws he wont be. Probably on set shift eg 4 on 2 off. We came here with a plan that I would do that for 3 years earn a few quid buy our house then get a day job.
Anyway my OH landed we spent 1st week exploring and having fun then she managed to get herself a job and seemed quite happy.
2 weeks later I arrive home after a week away she was in tears and told me that she hated it here and wanted to go home, further more she confessed that she never wanted to come over here in the 1st place, wished that I had not been offered a job and that we would not have got a work visa

She agreed to give it some time but knowing her as I do it was only a matter of time..... Our relationship gradually started to fall apart and in April last year she returned to the UK.
The last year of my life has been without a doubt the most difficult.

Make it very clear to your husband that the Transport Industry over here has more than its share of problems as well as it does in the UK a little internet based research will soon show up the good the bad and the ugly
The Grass is NOT greener just a different shade
Think very long and hard before comming over here because most of the European truckers are either seperated or they went home again. Minus their life savings and without a house to go back to. Im not trying to scare you but this happens and you need to consider all outcomes and avoid the rose tinted syndrome.
Good luck

Thank you for your comment is much appreciated. I am worried that it won't work out but also worried if I don't try I'll never know, love my husband very dearly an think I've done enough research but still looking into things. Guess just have to see how it goes, as married do feel really committed to my husband as he is love if my life an he does understand like you it's his dream not mine. We won't land up with nothing an we've both discussed this. So until we take plunge guess only time will tell will either make or break us. Thank you again for your information all taken on board.

I've never seen anywhere that says it serves a "Full English Breakfast." Firstly they don't have proper bacon, secondly they don't do proper sausages and they don't do no fried-bread nor black pudding and then the beans is shite. You can get a bit of breakfast over here but I've never seen a proper one.

Think least of my worries is an English breakfast, but thanks for letting me know. Sure in six months time or so I'll know then I can write on here about my experience.

Well its been a while but hubby passed driving test on truck (which knew he would!). He's been out there three weeks on Monday and he's found somewhere to live and got a car, so he's pretty well set up now.
I've managed to sell house here with two buyers interested so looks like could be in Regina for Christmas! Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow - I know i'm gonna regret saying that as sure it is very cold but least i'll have me hubby to keep me feet warm.
Never thought the day would come me saying i'm emmigrating, lets just hope all goes well

I guess we'd all miss something no matter where we move to, guess just what you make it at the end of the day

As you say best try it and see how it goes, one day at a time. We too decision to sell our house, but don't see it as end of world though, we can still come back if didnt work out. Not sure I could deal with the idea someone else living in house and the cost of renting it out etc etc. Guess we all have our own ideas of how to do things. All good though starting to think positive

Guess Canada not for everyone but going with open mind, so guess that helps.

Hi Mona Lisa 69,
Been reading through this thread and it's good that you have kept positive... I think that will help once you get there.
Me and my hubby are waiting for our nomination to get to Saskatoon, not far from Regina (About 2+ hr drive)
We have been over to SK a few times over the last few years for a month at a time and absolutely love it there.
I wish you all the best for your future, keep thinking positive and I'm sure you will love it.
All the best
Julie

We've done our fair amount of research but never enough, guess life what you make it and think we are a lot better off than some that go out with little money to be able to survive those first few weeks/ months.
Hope your move goes well too, i'm off out there for two weeks in September to see hubby missing him so much! All be worth it in end though. Just hoping sale of house goes through ok, as first time buyer so should do. Then I can wrap things up here and head of to the Canadain SNOW! Again something just have to deal with, lifes a challenge and we all like challenges be boring otherwise.
