misery at Vancouver housing cost?

Hopefully just a few kilometres up the mountain in Coquitlam!
We bought our house in a rush, its lovely but was very much a head house rather than a heart house.
We have found a place that will accommodate the father in law if he chooses to spend longer periods of time with us. Much nicer kitchen etc.
Exciting times!

A lot of times they haven't even been doing open houses here, they sell too fast....lol..
One thing that would help bring me better mental health would be space, living in a 500sq foot box with no access to a garden or having a place to relax next to a fish pond, I can visualize how relaxing that would be....

I don't know if it came up already, but how do people even manage to pay property tax? I was shocked to see that property taxes are basically like a 2nd mortgage in Vancouver.

Only the top income earners can own a house in Vancouver if buying today, so I imagine they probably have the money to cover the taxes....

Vancouver Regent Hotel tenants fight for heat, hot water - British Columbia - CBC News
Apparently residents have gone a while without hot water and heat.

Do you mean you asked 180K more than the perceived value, and got the house you want for 60K under?
What is the price range that starts to make a difference?
I have been looking and prices are insane

It's all relative anyhow, all depends on where on the income ladder one falls, for some the burbs are affordable, to others they are just as out of reach as Vancouver.

No subjects, so sold in less than 7 days. Crazy prices but a very well run system unlike the UK!

I doubt it's just top income earners. Maybe people just have huge mortgages and what about the people renting? If taxes are so high, landlords will just add it on to the rent.

Yes, the property taxes impact everyone directly (owners) or indirectly (renters) and contribute to the high cost of housing in Vancouver. In some cases rentals can be better value (short term) as there is a practical limit to how much a landlord can charge a tenant, before that tenant decides she would be better off purchasing a cheaper property and paying the taxes.
