I'm now living in BC.
One of the things I miss most, of all things, is OS style mapping, you know - Landrangers and Pathfinders with good detail and contour data.
I'm really struggling to find something comparable, anyone know something I don't?

In my experience (which I admit is limited to south america and europe) this is one thing that the Brits do better than anyone on! OS maps are fantastic and as yet, I have yet to come across a national mapping system that rivals it - I am going to be missing this when we arrive! (but not enough to put us off!

I have downloaded numerous OS type topo maps from the National Geographic website.
I got a package with my Magellan handheld Triton GPS. I got 24 free ones and additional ones are $1 a shot. They print on standard 8 1/2" x 11" printer paper and are easily plasticized.
I have found them to be very useful.
