Hi,

I don't know whether this topic is opened before.

I've a question about the mailing address required during the landing process, to have the PR cards mailed to.

As far as I know, a P.O. Box address isn't accepted, but some companies are operating business centers that gives a person a street address with a suite number, which is a number of a rented mail box in this center.

I can recall companies like UPS & mbe offering this service. They also recieve couriers in your behalf & can forward your mails to any other location.

Is this kind of address accepeted as the the mailing address required during the landing process, & can it be used for other official transactions like SIN, health cards...etc.

Any response or advice in this regard is highly appreciated.

Thanks,

Canaway

I don't have an answer for you but you might have more luck getting one if you ask in the Canada or Immigration forum rather than this one. Tends just to be for introductions.

Hope you get the information you need.

well, i'd say it is more than enough to post a topic once instead of cluttering the whole forum.

did you try the search funtion? it's an amazing feature which works very well here. sometimes a different wording and/or extended search can be helpful.

and one of the reasons you didn't get an answer might be that most people don't know one - and instead of giving wrong advise don't answer... in addition some people who possibly know an answer to this very specific question probably aren't on be 24 hours a day. (your first topic with this title is dated Jun 22nd 2007, 8:31 am - this one Jun 23rd 2007, 2.20 pm... i thought dealing with cic makes people more patient... )

There is no obligation to give an address at the time of landing, they realise many people arriving wont have a secure address right away. You have 6 months to contact them (through the website or by phone) with a permanent secure address for them to mail the PR card to. After 6 months you would have to reapply for the card.

Others have used hotels for an addresses, most will hold your mail for you if you ask, but my advice is just leave it blank until you have accomodation sorted out. I used my work address for a lot of stuff as I had a job arranged. I waitied till after I had my appartment sorted to get my drivers license as thats the defacto ID here and you want your propper address on it. You get a few months before you have to get a local license anyway.

Really as a Brit, you do not need the PR card to return to the UK and then come back to Canada if you have loose ends to tie up after landing, so dont wait for the PR card to come if thats your plan. A british passport alone is enough to board the flight without a visa or canadian status. Then once at the immigration counter they can verify your PR status through their database and the ROLF in your passport.

Hope that helps.

Heres the link to the online address notification.
