Interesting area as well, because Owen Sound gets a tremendous amount of snow.....but you ain't seen nothing till you leave the area and head for Tobermory....almost like being back in Manitoba with the white outs, ice, snow, etc.....but great area in the summer. The swimming was terrific!!!! We're going to have to keep you around.....you keep bringing back these memories for me........ http://www.rom.on.ca/ontario/risk.ph...t&lang=&id=101 Yes indeed, the lakes and waterways of Ontario are one of its greatest assets. |

i went for what i thought would be nice quiet saturday afternoon drive, which it was, apart from the fact that i got lost on the way back from milton! i took eglinton road all the way down to milton and then hit steeles avenue, and from then on i took a wrong turn and ended up on trafalgar road! i did get back to mississauga but in a roundabout way!! anyway, what a surprise milton was--it was so quiet and peaceful, with trees and greenery everywhere, houses hidden off the main roads and not built right next to each other but with at least a couple of 100yds between, i really just wanted to stop and sit in the car and take it all in. however, as i got to milton town centre itself, it began to get a bit samey, just like any other town centre. i was pleasantly surprised though, as the area is called the "escarpment"--i thought all of ontario was flat as a pancake, but here there are high-ish bits here and there. more adventures later....... |

In the UK, when you've run out of credit, you can still receive calls, but here, you've got no chance  Yes....a mobile phone is a cellphone to the yanks and canadians.

I emailed Rogers asking why but so far no response -

There use to be a little town or something between Owen Sound and Tobermory - I've racked my brain and can't remember it - really great ice-cream and little shops. Although the ice-cream wasn't as good as that small town called I think Orangeville.....very delicious Thanks for all the memories!!!!! |

Apparently it's a booming business in the area. Did you ever to and visit the covered bridg at West Montrose - a bit of trivia......it's the oldest covered bridge in North America....been features in magazines all over the world apparently, and groups interested in this stuff travel to the area to see it. Good for West Montrose.....a little plug for them!!!! |

ok, here comes the 3rd instalment of newcomer's-to-ontario trivia......
went for another drive this afternoon, but, yes, you guessed it, i got lost again! you would probably say "how can anyone get lost in the area?" but most of us from the uk are used to everything being signposted and easily accessible. the first thing i have just about got used to are the road signs--when you are at traffic lights, for example, and you see a big blue sign in front of you, it shows the name of the road crossing you, whereas the sign for the road you are already on will be on your right or left side, parallel to yoou, as it were! confused? i was! the other thing i cant get used to is this north-south/east-west business with the roads. yes, i know its easy enough to understand, but when i am actually on the road, its a constant pain in the ----!! anyway, cut a long story short, i decided to pop into the local loblaws store to buy a set of nail clippers, but could i find one? nearest i got to one was when i saw a shelf with shaving stuff on it and next to it, a sign saying, "tensors". what in the name of ... are those?!! by the way, i asked a lady and she kindly showed me the ladies section of nail varnishes etc which also held the clippers!! oh, my kingdom for a woolworths store in ealing....! yet more useless info to follow......PS thanks for the invite, squarepants! you are definitely one of the blessed few if you live in such a nice area--hope you still know how to make a proper cuppa, the english way! :)
