Leasing a car as a newcomer
#1
Hi All,
I've searched the threads and have found one person that managed to secure a lease as a newcomer (showing an offer of employment letter), but wanted to know if anyone has any recent experience of this, specifically in BC? If so, were the rates much higher as a newcomer, or did you have to put a significant payment down? We'll both have job offers and can each put down approx $5-7k, so we're hoping we can each find something!
Thanks!

It's 20 years ago now but I leased a car as a newly landed permanent resident. I don't believe I had to put down any more deposit or pay any higher rate than because of that.
They were concerned that I had employment - I got a letter from my employer advising of my employment status and salary - and I was a permanent resident. Obtaining financing on a work permit is obviously much more difficult given the limited term of the work permit.

We’re in the process of applying via the PNP route as my wife is a nurse. I think we’ll be given a temp work visa whilst waiting on the PR stuff to get sorted, so that may throw a spanner in the works. TBH, we could pay down the lease in full (for 2 years) if required, so I guess we’ll just have to see.
