I’ve seen a few names come up after searching threads (Lynch Accounting, GTN), but I’d like to get a few more recommendations for accountants with UK and Canadian tax expertise. Does anybody have any recommendations? Thanks!

Some context to the ask is that I’m based in Canada and have had my father visiting for the majority of the past 3 years. I need to get advice on both his UK and Canadian tax obligations given his change in residency over those past 3 years and the disposal of some of his property in that time.

Hi. So in this instance I contacted BDO who I forgot I’d contacted before a long time ago for my own situation with UK-Canadian taxes. Whilst in both cases I haven’t had a need to proceed with their services, the BDO accountants I had an initial consultation with have been great and I feel quite generous with their advice given the consultation is free. BDO’s rates were quoted as $575+ / hour depending on seniority.

Another company I contacted was DMCL. Their rate was quoted as $500 / hour, which includes the initial consultation (but that is credited if you use their services)

Wow! That’s a lot of money! I am Scottish and dealing with my mother’s Canadian as well as Scottish property and assets. If your dad is a Canadian resident, he only needs to pay tax in Canada. If he’s been here for 3 years I would assume he has permanent residency, same as me. He doesn’t need to pay tax in the uk (unless it’s property tax). Any income is reported in Canada and he would pay the Canadian gov’t any taxes owing. Am I misunderstanding something?
