I was using component cables since my camera doesn't have HDMI, but that certainly worked on the TVs I tried it on. There's no technical reason why the TV shouldn't support 50Hz, just marketing.

Fortunately my camcorder is 50/60Hz switchable, so it's not such a big deal.

Not that I have ever looked (no reason to) but what are the differences in prices UK vs Canada?

I know you can pick up a pretty good (LG, Sharp Aquos or Sony) 40" to 42" 1080p LCD or Plasma here for between $1,300 and $1,600.

Prices are reasonably similar on 40"-50" sizes, once you go over that, quite a bit cheaper in Canada (lets face it, if you had a house in the UK big enough to house a >50" TV you wouldn't care about the cost anyway)....

Hell even in Canada my house isn't big enough for a 50" or larger.

42" is about as big as the room can handle and that's pushing it.

However I do have a friend who built his own media room in his basement using a Panasonic projection unit. His screen is 10 feet wide.

Have you considered a monitor rather than a TV? We brought ours with us (it's dual voltage) and because it's a monitor will display anything.

You don't really need a built in TV tuner these days.... it's all in the boxes that come with your sat or cable subscription.

Please correct me if I'm wrong on the above.... but that's what we did and it plays anything we throw at it, including the computer!
