Hahaha! Yeah - first day driving over here, in an automatic car, on the opposite side of the road and in a hybrid was hard enough - then it started snowing!!
We couldn't even read the road names as the signs were covered in snow!!

Wow, thank you all so much for your replies, you've really helped me out, don't feel half as bad now although I am sure it will just be one hell of a roller coaster ride from now until we get there.
Thanks again.

Hi Buddles
I live just 10 minutes down the road from you in Milton - it's a small world
10 months to sell the house
god and here was me thinking it wasn't that bad up here as it was down south.
If you don't mind, can I ask if you got market value for it
We've just been in our house 18 months or so and are planning on selling it fixed price for what we bought it for and jsut hope for the best

Hi McLaren family,
Nice to hear from you, is that the Milton in Dunbartonshire??
When we put the house on the market the credit crunch hit that day and things were really slow to start with. We did get the market value although not as much as we had been told to expect when we first put it up for sale. We didn't go for fixed price but did consider it, however things really started to pick up in the last month or so and we had more viewers than before, so hopefully you won't have to wait too long.
Good luck

Hi
We head to NS in June for good, you are definitely not alone, most of the time I am really excited, then I suddenly get a wave of panic come over and I am thinking OMG what are we doing

Good luck, I am sure it is normal, as people that have already made the move have said, whereabouts are you heading to, perhaps we can catch up once over there some time? I think there are a few BE meet ups planned this summer

Hopefully heading to the Fall River area, that's the plan anyway. Would be good to meet up and share experiences, plan on going to some of the BE meet ups as well.
Good luck for your move in June and hopefully we won't be too far behind you!
Thanks again for support, everyone's been so nice.

We have just accepted the offer and are having the missives drawn up just now, not actually moved out yet. We have told them we can't move until July and they are fine with that. Got a couple of shipping companies coming out this week to give quotes for furniture. We reckon that once we are out of house we will have to hang around for a week or possibly 2 to make sure the sale goes through smoothly, money goes into bank etc. We are hoping to find something furnished to rent for this period or that an unsuspecting family member will put us up.
Good luck with your house sale and your plans.

Oh thank goodness someone else has nerves! I am a total wreck at the minute, finding it hard to stay focused on anything else. One minute I am scared of not going and the next I am scared to go. I told very few people when I originally applied because the wait was so far off (thought I wouldn't hear anything until Sept 2010). Now things are moving along I am telling various people I am on a wave of emotions. I recently found out my good friend has cancer and probably only a year or so to live and this has made the potential move even harder because I will may not be around when things get bad for her.
So many people have stated that they will visit, probably not to see me but for somewhere to stay, so if I cannot find work my cardboard box better house more than 1 person!
Someone gave me the best bit of advice (I think) about giving it time when I get there. They said be sure to stay for as long as it has taken you to get there, to really give it a chance.

Buddles - last minute nerves are normal. You a making a HUGE jump. But 2 and half years down the road, this was the best move we ever made. No regrets and love our life here - just be prepared for a 'bumpy' first year as you get used to it all....but enjoy it!
