LAST MINUTE PANICS
#1
Hi everyone,
I am new to the forum, although my hubby has posted a few threads (colinbud). Just thought I would say hello and ask for some reassurance if that's ok.
The house has just been sold, after 10 months on market, and we are now planning our move to Nova Scotia round about July time. Now we are at thsi stage, we are having major nerve wobbles about the whole thing (wondering if doing the right thing, what if we can't find work etc. etc.) I am absolutely sure (almost) it is just last minute cold feet but can anyone share their experiences with me, did they go through the same thing??
Thank you.
Laura

I don't think anyone knows 100% that they're doing the right thing - but you've got this far and now you have to jump in, otherwise you'll grow old wondering what if, rather than tried it and it either worked or it didn't. Either way you'll end up in a better place mentally because of it.

Hi Buddles
I live just 10 minutes down the road from you in Milton - it's a small world
10 months to sell the house
god and here was me thinking it wasn't that bad up here as it was down south.
If you don't mind, can I ask if you got market value for it
We've just been in our house 18 months or so and are planning on selling it fixed price for what we bought it for and jsut hope for the best

I dont think Ive ever been a nervous as i was when we got our TWP and booked flights - i felt physically sick but happy at the same time.
Uprooting my family especially kids was a huge thing and a bloody big gamble to me. I remember being at the hotel at the airport the night before and thinking " oh god what the hell are we doing!!"
Been here just 6 months now, settling well, still a long way to go. Hubby has work ( he had open permit) and didnt have too many probs finding it either. Kids are settled and enjoy school ... its not the super haven some people expect it to be and comes with its own issues ( eg/ huge pot culture here in BC which replaces the binge drinking in the Uk lol) but overall things seemt o be settling well. We are not at the point yet where we feel we are better off than we were in the UK financially - but we are definatly better off in general
Good luck - wobbles are quite normal

Anxiety and worries are normal but I am sure once here and things settle and if you are shipping stuff over they arrive and are around you things will feel better. We have been here 12 months at the end of this month and love it and hoping to sort PR out in the summer

Well, congratulations on selling the house and getting to a stage where you are able to to start focussing on planning the final stages of your move to NS. We hope it is a tremendous success for you. As to the wobbles....we remember them well before our move to Alberta. We suspect though that, like you, we were among the vast majority of folk that feel that way. It's entirely normal to get a little nervous and edgy before making this big change.
Kind regards,
Eamonn & Janet.

Congratulations on the move etc.
I think it is perfectly normal to have the feelings that you have. I am on the verge myself, and I am only going out for the final reccie and exam to be able to go out there. The mix of excitement, nausea, fear, sorrow and stress is intoxicating. But I know if I dont go I will regret not, at least, trying it. I want my children to have the choice of here or North America, and I can give them that. It may not be right for me and I have to come back but my kids may end up staying and flourishing in Canada, at least they will have the choice.
I was reading a thread on the MBUK forum postings by people that have come back to the UK and now regret it terribly. 2 yrs seems to be the time it takes to decide whether to stay or not.
Keep your sights set on the goal and give it a go, you can always come back. But give it 2 yrs or so.
Good Luck x

First of all Good Luck
Last minute panics are definately normal - myself and my wife flew to Canada a week ago (we're now in Nanaimo on Vancouver island). I had first minute, middle minute and last minute panics all the way through the whole process!
Honestly I went from happy to sad to scared to excited about 4 times a day, so just enjoy the ride - at the end of the day if you really hate it you can always go back . . . although I'm sure you won't!
Oh and if you find yourself waking up at 4am every day worrying, just use the time to write down all the things on your mind and then come on this site and share - it really helps.
Madwife is right about giving it time - we came out here in 2005 on a one year TWP, we went back to the UK and wished we hadn't. It took about 10 months to build up a social network here last time, now we are having to start again. Give it a couple of years at least before you decide to stay or go.
Hope it all goes smoothly!!

Hi Buddles
You sound just like me. I had a mad panic on here one night and got loads of support.
I get in to a mad panic/strop every other day and say I am not going. When I found out on Tuesday that we had got a positive LMO I cried for 20 mins not sure if it was panic or relief or both.
You are certainly not on your own in feeling this way.
Chin up, keep smiling and stay focused.

Hi
We head to NS in June for good, you are definitely not alone, most of the time I am really excited, then I suddenly get a wave of panic come over and I am thinking OMG what are we doing

Good luck, I am sure it is normal, as people that have already made the move have said, whereabouts are you heading to, perhaps we can catch up once over there some time? I think there are a few BE meet ups planned this summer

Another one here that is panicing off and on. I seem to have two permanent states - fretting that the TWP application is successful, in equal parts to fretting that it isn't successful.
I don't think I have any other states or emotions or can even think about anything else.
Scary thing is that the kids came home with a letter about school holiday clubs this week and I was thinking "OMG we hopefully won't be here then" which set me into another blind panic.
I hope it is fairly normal, because right now I feel like the biggest barn pot on earth!

Hi everyone,
I am new to the forum, although my hubby has posted a few threads (colinbud). Just thought I would say hello and ask for some reassurance if that's ok.

Now we are at thsi stage, we are having major nerve wobbles about the whole thing (wondering if doing the right thing, what if we can't find work etc. etc.) I am absolutely sure (almost) it is just last minute cold feet but can anyone share their experiences with me, did they go through the same thing??
Thank you.
