Smile Landing (PR Visas) - How long does it take?

Hi,

looking to book flights for travelling next month and wanting to book onward flight after "landing" at either Vancouver or Calgary. Can anyone advise on how long to leave for the landing process (PR status) at either of these airports. Any does anyone have thoughts on which airport would be quicker/easier.

Cheers,

Roy

I'd considered that one (BUT does lack of international flights preclude immigration control?)

So you clear immigration and collect your baggage at every international airport in Canada BEFORE you get a connecting flight?

You have to clear immigration and collect your baggage at (air)port of entry. So f'rexample if you are flying to Halifax on AC861 which lands in St. John's NL first you have to clear immigration/customs, pick up your bags, deposit them back with AC, wait around for 45 mins and then get back on the same plane for the leg to Halifax.

So if the OP is landing in Vancouver and then taking an internal flight to whereever, he will need to clear immigration & thus 'land' for purposes of PR at Vancouver. Hence his question about the time this takes.

It does. But that flight via NFL is international till it gets to NFL, then it turns into an internal.

So therefore if they have immigration officers it would be POSSIBLE to delay the 'landing process' until reaching Halifax.
No, surely if its the same flight code its still the same flight (international)

No I don't think you can delay landing. I'm sure they kick everyone off the plane.

AX - help (He knows way more about this than I do )

LOL
I'm not denying the booting off the plane, but that isnt actually 'landing' for PR purposes is it . All I'm saying is you SHOULD be able to actually become a landed immigrant ANYWHERE that there is an immigration official.

We flew into Toronto, but didn't actually become landed immigrants until we'd driven to Sask.

Oh, now I'm confused. I know you can 'not land', if you want to put if off for some reason. But, if you don't land at NFL, and then get back on the plane for Halifax, you would end up at domestic arrivals.

How did you land at Sask then??
