What about men with GHDs?

dont laugh, my brother (who has only one inch of hair at most) owns three pairs of hair straightners!
i bet there are loads of guys who secretly uses their partners GHD's

OMG since recommending the Hai Stik straighteners they have gone wrong!! Had to post them back to HQHair this morning. Daughter is distraught at the thought of being without them for two weeks whilst they are investigated, we had buckets of tears this morning at the thoughts of having to wear hair in a ponytail for the next 14 days!!! How can she possibly go to college with her hair unstraightened!!!!??? Gosh she has beautiful blonde hair and tell her as I may that it looks beautiful just as it is she will not believe me and feels it is the end of the earth.

I was interested to read the other comments about GHDs working in Canada despite being 240 volts. as a matter of interest do they heat up just as hot on 120 and how long do they take to heat up?? From one frustrated Mum.

I don't think they get *quite* as hot here as in the UK, but that's not to say they don't get extremely hot! I straightened my hair on Sunday morning in the UK with them, at 240v. I've just used them here at 110v to compare (usually use locally bought 110v ones) and my hair's straight but it doesn't have that nothing-will-frizz-my-locks kind of feel. I suspect if it was slightly raining, it'd frizz...which definitely doesn't happen at 240v with GHD, or 110v with generic Canadian-bought ones. I used the UK GHD ones at Canadian voltages for many months last year, and definitely remember having to do "touch-up" straightens in between washes.

I'm really happy with my Canadian 110v ones, but when I used them day before yesterday it was interesting to note that the plates are not as smooth through my hair as the GHD ones (at either 110v or 240v)...

Hi, only gave my straighteners about 2 mins before using them, I have hair like Crystal Tipps (if any of you are old enough to remember ) and really frizzy, end ended up with a smooth finish no different to here in the UK. I can only speak for my straighteners though, purchased about 3 months ago, hologram 3.1b type. Hope this helps.

Thanks Biiiiink, I guess when we eventually move to Calgary we will have to get a 110 v pair for her over there, anything to keep the peace. My daughter has returned home from college this afternoon and informed me she has just blown her whole months allowance plus Saturdays babysitting money on a new pair of GHDs - I guess she just couldnt wait!!!!!

www.folica.com have the CHI ones for $94US. I bought these and they work as well as my GHD ones did.

I am now using my GHD's in NS and they work better than in the uk! in the uk they burnt my hair, now they straighten without burning!

That's exactly it, it'll depend on your hair - mine is like curly steel wool, UK GHDs at 110v just weren't enough... but if your hair doesn't need much, then they'll be fine
