I don't think it's doable by car. I quite often work in Guelph and reverse commute from Toronto, that's 90 minutes and I'm awed at the tolerance of the drivers sitting in the jam going the other way. I had a phase of working in Kitchener while living in Mississauga and found that workable but a bit of a strain on snowy days.

It might be feasible to drive to the end of the GO train line and catch a train or even to take the VIA train but either option would depend on having reliable hours; something uncommon in the computer business.

My dad use to commute to toronto from kitchener for years. It makes for a very long day for the person both in terms of working hours and time spent in traffic coming in and leaving toronto at certain hours of the days. My dad worked odd hours to be able to miss the high traffic times. He was a systems analysis! So it is doable but consider carefully whether its worth it or not!

I work with someone who drives in from just short of Guelph. He gets to the office at five so as to miss the traffic but the problem is getting home again. You have to be gone at one in order to miss the traffic, or wait until seven, and one is very often too early to get away. He often ends up sleeping here.

Yes, that is a very adept description of life commuting from kitchener to toronto every day. My dad was very happy to get a transfer to the kitchener office so he no longer had the commute, and now tells us he would never ever do it again!

And it gets worse every year. I don't know how people can stand to do it.
