thanks!

I don't know when you plan to checkout kingston, but you might want to plan it around this festivals, we go every year, and its always a blast, actually we are going there this weekend for the Spring Recreation and Leisure Showcase, and in june for the First Capital Day celebrations, which marks the celebration of kingston as the first capital of canada.
The Kingston Buskers Rendezvous, and the Taste of Kingston
near the lake front, both in July. Towards the end of August, you have the Limestone City Blues Festival.
cheers
PS: If you are going to be around for any of those, let us know, we hook up for some fun by the lake.

I'll look into that for you, we were there over the weekend, checking out the Spring Recreation and Leisure Showcase, which took place downtown. The weather was nice, so we had picnic with some friends by the lake, and also took part in some sporting activities.
Its a nice place, closer to Ottawa and QC, if my job was near there, i'll live there. You might want to check it out with the family, and see what they think about it, am sure the kids will love it. Montreal is down the road, not literally
if you guys fancy a day out, and it doesn't get any more European than that place, so if you guys miss all that buzz from the continent, you can just nip over there.

Ahhh Kingston...
I lived there for the first 18.5 years of my life. It does tend to get a bit boring after a while, but anywhere does as it grows on you.
That in mind, it is really close to Toronto and Ottawa, as well as the eastern side of Quebec, so if there's anything else you feel like doing, you'll likely find it there.
I'm not sure how much has been said about Kingston so far, as I didn't want to read a few pages of posts, but thought I'd contribute a bit
It's a really odd mix of social classes there. There's the homeless, then the students in the "Queen's Ghetto" area, the working class working in the retail areas, LOTS of middle-class people living in suburbian hell (ME!), and then the few upper class people with their huge houses, both old and new. It's nice, though. Whether you're living there or visiting, going downtown is a *must*. The historic buildings, beautiful waterfront, and everything else is amazing, especially in the summer. I've seen it a million times, but always spend a good chunk of my summer there anyway.
I'm normally over on the US Marriage-Based visas forum, as I'm working on getting that and moving down there to be with the hubby, but this topic caught my eye.
I'm living in Peterborough, Ontario at the moment for school, heading back to Kingston at the end of April. You don't appreciate Kingston until you live in a smaller city, or haven't spent most of your life there :P

Hi WretchedMidget
Thanks for your input - sounds like Kingston is definitely worth a visit! Im used to a small town overe here in Scotland anyway, so Im sure it wouldnt be too much of a culture shock if I made the move there.
