Re: John Smiths Bitter
Yep, it just about survived the trip to the other side of town and up the Otley Road to the Three Shoes where it was the (default) pint of choice, but beyond that...not so much! I dont ever recall finding a good pint of tetleys outside of Leeds come to think of it...
When were you there? I was there 1988-1995. Most of it spent in the three shoes or the Original Oak it seems

Re: John Smiths Bitter
Went to get a bottle of wine from the LCBO in Kanata yesterday and found that they stocked Marstons Pedigree in bottles... Never thought I'd see that here at all.

I drank a lot of that last weekend. In a mate's garage. I fear that he's gone crazy in the colonies because the garage looks like this:

Re: John Smiths Bitter
Sam Smiths was always classed as (and priced as) a premium beer, at least in relation to John Smiths.

How about Woodforde Wherry....a norfolk brew that was rightly champion beer on more than a few occasions. One of the best things about my stay in Norwich was the quality of the beer in that part of the world...Who knew! I certainly didnt, as far as I was concerned Yorkshire was the mother of all good beers...till I moved out to Norwich anyway.
Old Specled Hen too was another decent local(ish) pint, and seems to travel pretty well too.

I spent a couple of years in Norfolk, right out in the sticks. Still have a house there, actually. One of the best things about it was the local pub in the village, a proper timbered local, fire on in the winter... and the most beautiful pint of Woodforde's Wherry you can imagine. Oh God, I'm drooling.
Anyway, here in my bit of west Calgary I can get London Pride for $2.50 a can, and Old Speckled Hen for the same price. When Pride and the 'Spotty Chicken' are sold out, I can (just about) get by on the Wells IPA - but it's not nearly as good. My local offy also has Boddingtons and Tetleys, all about $2.50 for a 500ml can.
Time for a Pride, methinks...
