Default Importing car from Canada to the US

Okay - so this is normally done the other way around, but has anyone imported a car from Canada to the US? I'm relocating and have a 2010 Mazda (only a few months old) and 2008 Ford. Will the warranties be valid in the US? Whats it going to cost to register them etc??

Don't really want to sell either, although that depends on how much moving them is going to cost vs cost to sell and repurchase in the US.

You will need to get a customs clearance for the vehicles. Customs will want a letter of compliance from the manufacturer stating that the vehicle meets US safety and emissions requirements.

Cost of registration will depend on what state you are moving to. Fifty states means fifty sets of rules.

Edited to ask: do you own the vehicles outright or are they leased?

Moving to Chicago. Both owned outright, but Mazda has 0% financing through Scotiabank

Start here then.

When you say the car is financed through Scotiabank, it sounds to me like Scotiabank owns the car, and you are paying them back. In any event, you should call Scotiabank and make sure they are ok with you taking the vehicle out of the country. Some lenders balk at that.
