Default immunisation records for schools?

Hi,
Does anyone know whether schools in Canada need to see kids immunisation records before enrolling? In the situation where a child has not had the second MMR jab will he be unable to enroll?

When we received our VISAs and COPRs there was a document in there to take to our GP to be certified what immunisations are children have had. We haven't landed yet, nor are they old enough for school, but was wandering if you had received the same form ?

we were asked as part of the school registration process (in Ontario - I'd imagine this varies province-to-province). A photocopy of the relevant page of the little red "child health record" book sufficed. Can't help on the second MMR jab thing though - ours too young for that to have been an issue.

Immunisations are not mandatory.

See the relevant paragraph in the BE Wiki about Canadian Schooling.

My children have had no immunisations at all. They made it through school and then university and one now works in a hospital. It can be done. The easiest route is claim membership of a religion that prohibits immunisations and then to conscientiously object.

That said, the idea of not having the immunisations is unhealthy, stupid and selfish and entails massive conflict with the bureaucracy so you have to bloody minded to the nth degree to follow this course. Why not just get it done?

Point taken. Our kids have had all jabs except the 2nd MMR. The reason was that when my boy had the first MMR he had a very bad reaction then started to behave in a peculiar way and he was on the verge of being diagnosed with autism so we didn't give him the 2nd jab cos we thought it might push him over the edge.

I would think that explanation, along with proof of the other immunisations, would be sufficient for the school board. It's locally administered though so one can't be certain.

Does he still seem autistic?

The MMR was originally designed to be given once. However they found that it didn't have the conversion rate that they thought it would (which they thought would be commensurate with singles (around 98-99.7%). The conversion rate is only about 92% meaning that of 100 kids who actually get the jab 8 won't have immunity. So the booster is for those children. If you are sweating about it you can get his immunity tested.
