Are immigration services worth the money? We started the process (common law couple) to become PRs some time back with a company who seemed very reasonable on cost and always supportive and helpful on the phone.
I got as far as filling in the forms for both of us and having most of the supporting evidence when the company went bust. Another company(Immigration Solutions) is offering to pick up the clients but they offer a 'much more comprehensive service, are approved members of official sounding bodies (ILPA, Registered at Level 3 Specialist Immigration Practice with OISC). That will eventually cost £2000 (for both of us) which in theory we'd be willing to pay if it was worth it to reduce the headache of the process and to avoid any pitfalls. My partner would be the principal applicant as a College and Other Vocational instuctor. (The forms took ages to fill for her because she has been self employed for 20 yrs doing tons of quite short term jobs, so there is a danger of inconsistencies between employment history and 'personal history of last 10 years, including employment') No job offers at present.
Is it prudent to go ahead and use them? Or are we gonna feel like mugs??

Depends. There are some pros and cons in the wiki article

There have been polls and much discussion in the past, something like 2 out of 3 do it themselves (with help from sites like this one) Legally they cant take your money to help you find a job, so if they are promising that then the red lights should start to come up...

Hi
Just be methodical and follow the instructions and check and check again and you will be fine. It really is not that hard. You just have to be organised. My wife thought i was anal when i sent it in in perfect order and in a little folder...but it is all in the detail!!
Keep your money think how big a TV you could get!!
Cheers
