All I will say to Alan 2005 and other posters who share his position is feel free to take your next vacation in the DPR of Korea. Im sure the immoral border guards working there will let you straight in without being questioned.
Let me know how you get on please.

The inconvenience irritates me, as does the risk of being busted for some nonsensical thing. I don't trouble the police and I'd thank them not to trouble me, no good can come from an ordinary citizen coming into contact with the police.

So when your house gets broken into, your vehicle stolen or your youngest child goes missing or god forbid sexually assaulted then you wont be calling the Police I take it.

I think its safe to say he had passing casual encounters in mind, rather then business reasons for contacting them... You cant claim on the insurance without a police report after all.

I did not call the police for the first two. I cannot tell if my youngest child has been sexually assaulted.

The problem with open boundaries is that my way of life would be compromised, and i don't want that to happen.

I don't object to the job they do, I object to the way they do it. Too many cops/immigration clerks et al think that putting on that uniform makes them some kind of Judge Dredd.
If the burger-monkeys at McDonalds can be trained to smile and greet you like you're the highlight of their day, I'm sure these surly buggers can be trained too.

Except that it is part of the burger-monkeys job working in fast food or retail to smile and invite you back. I am sure that Border Guards do not actually give a puck if they see you next week or not. Since the gov't is trying to recover money instead of making it through enterprise, border agents are more like cattle herders than customer service employees.

Although, from what you are posting, maybe you think it is. So why not suggest a new policing technique: just walk up to everyone and ask them if they are criminals. Lock up the ones that say yes and soon the country will be crime free.
