Congratulations - it's not always easy to find a doctor taking on new patients!

Hi Maple Leaf, yes it's been wet and cold today, time to turn on the heating! What's it like at the Lake? Not to many people tubing now eh!

So relieved... misread the thread and though you were excited because you found a drill. My in-laws already warned me it's a similar situation in Calgary -we need more GPs emigrating!

Fortunately it isn't that far. I can get there on the bus or go with Souvette when she goes to work in the morning in Ottawa. It's a pain though. Only a few walk-in clinics in Ottawa will see Quebec patients. You have to pay up front and then try to claw the money back from the QC government. I make a point now of getting there for 7am, when they open, otherwise you're looking at hours waiting. Plus, you don't have a GP as such so there's no follow up. I recently finished a one-month course of medication and I've no idea if I'm meant to go back.

i am wondering if it is because of the qual transfer over to Canada dont' match up or something and they have to sit exams etc..?

The qualifications transfer issue doesn't help but I believe the main reason to be that doctors qualify in Canada and then bugger off to the US to make even more money than they do here.

ah well that could make sense...i also wonder why there isnt' more....Canadian born people becoming doctors within their own country..it is the same in Australia too.
