choose 'open with', then choose Microsoft Office Picture Manager. Along the top you will see 'File' 'Edit' and so on to 'Picture'. Left click on 'Picture'.
From the drop down menu click on 'Resize...'.
A new panel will appear on the right-hand side of the screen headed 'Resize Settings'.
You can resize by
a. Predetermined width and height
choose 800x600 or 640x480 (pixels), then 'Okay'
Your picture will be resized proportionately
B. Custom width and height or
c. Percentage
Click on the button beside the heading to choose which method you would like to use to resize.
I would recommend 'a' or 'c'
Just above the 'Okay' button at the base of the panel you will see 'Size setting summary' which shows you both the original and new size of your picture. Once you have done, save your picture. If you want to open a new one click 'File', choose 'Open' and click on the file you want to open.
You can also open Microsoft Office Picture Manager through the start menu:
'Start'
Microsoft Office
Microsoft Office Tools
Microsoft Office Picture Manager.

Graphic Converter is great for resizing images and more. You probably have it if you're using a new-ish Mac, if not, go to http://www.lemkesoft.com/en/index.htm
