Hello All
Quite new to this sort of thing but have been looking around various sites for a while with the intention of moving to Canada - Ontario likely with Ottawa/Toronto being favourites.
I work in Insurance Fraud as a Qualified Investigator and my wife will be a qualified Teacher within the next 12 months so really looking for any help with job likelihood/availability in the above stated regions. The points system seems OK for us to get through so the job issue is the main thing!
Look forward to hearing from you

Welcome to BE. I would start here - http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Quick_...an_Immigration , but first put down some padding on the floor for when you fall off your chair at the thought of the 5 year wait for a skilled worker visa. There are a load of other ways to get here, so hopefully you can get some help with the job hunt and do it a bit faster.

Hello and welcome!
As Tuppence has said, the wait for the visa you are talking about is at least 5years so if I were you I'd forget about the points system and concentrate on finding jobs, not the other way around! Have a hunt around the very excellent Wiki and learn about all the other ways to get to Canada much quicker (unless of course you knew about the 5 year wait and are happy with that) - such as finding a job first and then going on a Temporary Work Permit (TWP).
I know that one thing I've seen advised on here is that if you do want to get into Canada quicker then you should forget about Ontario - it doesn't seem to really have any labour shortages so jobs are harder to find there, whereas if you apply for jobs in another province with a shortage of teachers for example, you're much more likely to get offered a job and therefore get a TWP. So it might be worth considering other provinces if you want to get there sooner than 2012! Although I should add that I've no idea how sought after teachers or investigators are there - check the Occupations Under Pressure list for each province to find out if they are needed in each one. And it might be worth doing a search for 'teachers' on this forum as I know they have often been mentioned and it might give you some pointers on where to go to get a job.
Best of luck with it all, this website will no doubt become an invaluable tool for you in your research and throughout the process - I know it has been for me! I hope it all goes smoothly for you.

No shortage of teachers in Canada so don't hang your hat on your OH getting a teaching job anytime soon. More here: http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Teaching_in_Canada
