A: Because then Edmonton would want one
Much better from the Flames last night, although they should have 3 up in the first period.

Dead Rear does have a decent hockey team.
They are called the Rebels and they play in the WHL.
You are correct Edmonton does want one, a WHL franchise that is.

Yay, hockey! I was lucky enough to get to go to a Canucks game against Minnesota at GM Place back in November 2003. Loved the atmosphere and the speed and excitement of it all! I was in Calgary in April 2004 for the Flames' game vs Vancouver in the Stanley Cup, went and watched the game in a bar and wow, what an atmosphere!!! The horns were going in the streets downtown that night!!!Fond memories, can't wait to get back out there

I share my misery because that's what talkboards are for.
I think it quite reasonable to ask why anyone would want to stay indoors, in an ice rink already, during one of the four warm months of the year. Hockey in winter I can see but there aren't important games until it's hot. Besides, now Nilan and Kordic are gone there are no players to admire.
In any case, people who care about the NHL should be in the US rather than Canada, they have better teams, cheaper tickets and, in the case of the southern teams, it's always warm outside the rink.

What a misery you are! I feel sorry for you that you need to take potshots like that. Enjoy the day - and Go Canucks Go!!!

A close one last night in Edmonton.
A great evening's entertainment provided by both games (IMHO)
When in Rome ....

Come back and say that after the Winter Olympics. If Canada don't win gold there will be national mourning.

"Really?? On what do you base that?"
Observations.
Rinks are not being used much,
No advertising,
No flags/banners (even sport shops have a display of goods but very few posters/flags/banners etc)
Hardly any mention on TV,
Kids are still wearing soccer shirts and playing it even though the season has ended here.
"Come back and say that after the Winter Olympics."
Thats a different matter, everyone is out in the streets playing tennis during and just after wimbledon, ice rinks were packed just after torvill and dean won gold, now they are closing
"If Canada don't win gold there will be national mourning."
A bit over the top? sure it will be hard to take but do you really think flags will be at half mast and the government will declare a day of national mourning?
BTW, i never said it wasn't popular, the opposite in fact. What i said was that it's not my game

I guess a lot depends on where you live - maybe, because in all my travels what you describe is not the norm in hockey season in Canada! Rinks not being used much? Try getting ice time out here in BC. No advertising? Nothing but, especially on national TV. Flags, banners, etc? Lots here. Hardly any mention on TV? I guess you watch only US TV. As for soccer, for the kids it's in full swing out here in BC. The professional season has ended, but I don't get your point there.
It's sounding more and more like you are a very unhappy person who wishes you lived elsewhere. It's your choice. I really detest cricket, but I don't come out swinging at people who like it, or where it's played.

(A) I am very happy in my new house with my wonderful family in beautiful Nova Scotia. Wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
(B) I didn't "come out swinging" against hockey, read back through this thread and you will see that all i said was that it's not my game and couldn't understand the excitement. I also acknowledged that i like cricket but could see how some people don't.
I do agree that the hysteria surrounding hockey could be regional, here in Nova Scotia it is not obvious that hockey is a big game. There was a post a few weeks ago (can't remember who by) asking who was going to the first game of the season (Halifax) he got 3 replies, none of who planned on going.
Before you start slagging anyone off, get your facts right
