I can't believe that nobody has mentioned it. If nothing else it'll provide better entertainment than watching the other channels.
I've not lived here for an NHL season. so my experience is the World Cup thing that Canada won and the WHL games.
At least those folk who never bothered to remove the Flames flags from their cars and houses (and which are now looking worse for wear) can rest easy again.
For some odd reason (like trying to increase beer sales) the bar owners on 17th Ave are trying to start it up "the red mile" again this evening. But with a predicted low of -1 I doubt many tops will be coming off.
Apparently the excitement here during that run was incredible, I hope it all happens over again next June.

I thought the old movies on CBC were much better than the hockey and hoped the players would strike forever.

I suspect Hockey returning is going to lift a lot of spirits as we head into winter..I for one am looking forward to it!
dbd...I have to wonder why you live here and choose to share your misery with us all?

But how can you get excited watching it on TV when you can't see the puck and you only know when a team has scored by the music played in the stadium?
But I like most sports (apart from American Football) and after a few games last autumn, I was starting to get the hang of the rules and being able to follow the puck.
Back to square one at 6:00pm tonight though

Cricket or Golf? Ho hum, isn't that sorta like watching grass grow?
They're about as thrilling as Baseball. Now there's a fun game, rounders played by men.
But hockey is my number one sport now. Not the NHL though. I much prefer major junior, the WHL brand of hockey. Although I have to agree with CalgaryBlade NHL on TV is better than just about any of the regular programming.
Cheers
Steve

I find that after a couple of beers I am not only able to keep my eye on the puck (and my stick on the ice) but I am two or three seconds ahead of it. If by some strange quirk of nature you do not partake in the odd alcoholic beverage try watching the game on an American channel, they highlight the puck throughout the game..what can you say..only in America Ehh.

This seems to be the conversation around the work place today, all the games that were played yesterday, and the Leafs being beaten by Ottawa. I haven't got a clue what they are talking about, but there seems to be a lot of sad faces about.
I played field hockey years back in the UK, but it's different from ice hockey. I hope to be able to get into it soon, so I can fit in with the office crowd.

I share my misery because that's what talkboards are for.
I think it quite reasonable to ask why anyone would want to stay indoors, in an ice rink already, during one of the four warm months of the year. Hockey in winter I can see but there aren't important games until it's hot. Besides, now Nilan and Kordic are gone there are no players to admire.
In any case, people who care about the NHL should be in the US rather than Canada, they have better teams, cheaper tickets and, in the case of the southern teams, it's always warm outside the rink.
