Well, you can get all the information you need if you visit the website of Canadian High Commission at New Delhi. You need to have both a visitor visa as well as 'Student Authorization' to enter Canada for the purpose of studies. In order to get this, you need to be unconditionally accepted at a University in Canada. Also, you will have to show proof of funds, certificate of 'No Criminal Record', undergo a medical examination by a designated medical practitioner, etc, etc..
Please visit the website and see the details. Let me warn you, unlike other countries like United States, or England, you need to plan well in advance if you need to go to Canada for higher studies - say 8 months, or even a year in advance. You need a hell lot of documentation and extreme patience.
Wish you good luck in your efforts.

First thing you need to do is get accepted in a graduate program. You will obviously need a scholarship (unless you are rich enough to pay for tuition and living expenses). You can get details of the universities / grad programs / scholarships etc. at www.aucc.ca. After you identify potential programs contact the professors involved and see if they will accept you as a grad student and recommend you for scolarships. Once you get your acceptance and financial support apply to the Canadian Embassy / consulate for student visa as per advice of the previous poster. I came here in 1991 on student visa to pursue a doctorate degree. Its a long road, need patience and perseverance.
Good luck.
Good luck.

The first step is to seek admission from an academic institution in
Canada. On the basis of such an acceptance, you can apply for a student
authorization. Additional information on this topic may be found at
