Default High River, Okotoks, Black Diamond road trip any suggestions.

We have been living in NW Calgary about 9 months now and so were thinking about venturing out down south just for a change. Fancy trying a scenic drive and hopefully end up somehow back in the NW.

Any suggestions on where to go, what to see, where to stop and possible routes.

Thanks in advance for your help.

head to the 22x, by heading west on Highway 1, then south on the 22x to Bragg Creak.............detour to Elbow Falls if you've not been yet.

Head west om 22x and take the road south to Millarville, just after the Bragg Creak turning. then when you hit Millarville head south to Turner Valley and then onto Black Diamond, pop into the Soda Shop in Black Diamond.

Follow the road to Okotoks and stop at the Erratic on the western outskirts. Then head north through Okotoks back onto Highway 2 back to Calgary.

There is an excellent book called Day Trips from Calgary with loads of places to go, scenic drives, short walks all within about 2 hours of Calgary

From the Trans-Canada to Priddis corner it's all Highway 22. It's only 22X from Priddis corner east.

You would have to head east not west from Bragg Creek to get to Millarville.

Go south to Longview turn right at the Esso station and take hwy 40 through Kananaskis over the Highwood pass , and if you can handle gravel, all the way to Spray lakes and down into Canmore. I've done it on my motorbike and there was no problem.

.......we 'did' the Elbow Falls route on the long weekend a couple of weeks ago and it is totally gorgeous!! .......DO take your lawn chairs and picnic with you though as you will want to park yourself and take in the view by the river....it was soooooo amazing.......there was still snow and ice in some places with people paddling just metres from the icy water!!!...much as I adore my homeland..... this beautiful country never ceases to amaze me!!!
