He LOVES school here, and has had no issues with settling at all. The more relaxed atmosphere suits his nature, and not having to be trussed up in a uniform made him Soooo happy.
As for pre-school, there are ones attached to schools, private groups, county run programmes......the choice is endless. Our school unfortunately does not run a pre- school so I opted for a privately run group, 2 mornings a week. The government gives parents $100 per month for every child under 6 yrs of age to help towards costs of childcare, so ours pays for little ones class, which is $75 per month.
Have fun !!!

Hi Deb
Thanks for that it's made me really relieved to hear that your son is enjoying school so much
I know what you mean about no uniform that was the first thing Megan spotted and she's telling her friends here that there's no uniform at her new school and is really excited to say the least. Thanks for the info on pre-school. How long do you have to be in Canada to get the $100 from the Government, as that would help us out?
I'm going back out in October so I'll pop into the school again to make sure all is fine for Megan's start. The principal said they have a place in a Grade 1 class and she'll be the 14th pupil ! much better than 30 in a class. They said I could take a few photo's of teachers and classrooms to take back to England to help with the transition of schooling, how nice is that !
I'm constantly being amazed how relaxed and friendly Canadians are and can't wait to move and finally have time to relax and be a mum again.
Bye for now

We have PR, so I'm wondering wether it will be the same for you guys if on PNP, but take a look at their website....... www.universalchildcare.ca and that may tell you more.
14 is a great class size !!! My son's class is 20, so not too bad either. Fingers crossed your little girl will settle. It is a huge worry for us parents and we were very anxious, especially as we'd taken Daniel out of a lovely little school in England, and into the great unknown, but I think as long as you are positive and excited it'll help her feel the same.
Have a great trip in Oct.

Hi Deb
Thanks for the info I'll look into it more. When we land we get PR status on the PNP and we can both work even though I don't need to.
Whilst at home I'm going to try and get my Canadian teaching qualification, so eventually I'll be able to teach, probably Elementary Level rather than High School.

Let me know what you think as I've been asked to write a short piece each month?

We are heading off ourselves in the next few months to Nova Scotia. My husband landed himself a job that appeared online. We told the company we were flying out on a 5 day break. He got an interview and was offered the job the same day.
Both of our families have a lot of work to do over the next few months and plenty of questions will be asked on here. Glad to say that lots of good advice offered from the great people on here.
Good luck to you all.

Thanks
Thanks

Good luck with your move, don't know NS but sounds lovely. This forum has been great as Paul has been in touch with other officers joining in Jan so great all round.
As things keep going quiet it's going to be harder to write as no great progress yet, awaiting medicals

It is incredibly family orientated here in Sh Pk, and I imagine St Albert is the same. You really won't be short of things to do with the children. Swimming lessons are great value here, and there are endless sports groups too. My eldest is going to start Basketball (didn't fancy hockey !!!!)
Have fun !!!

Just wanted to say Hi i moved to Edmonton just over 3 months ago and i have a 6 year old son just started first grade seems really happy there and hasnt once said he misses England! theyre so adaptable at that age.
i really love it here but i think i am going through the culture shock thing, feeling a bit homesick which i thought was a bit strange as i couldnt wait to leave England and have been tryng to get here for couple years but i guess by reading others experiences thats to be expected when its such a big change
Also Hi Deb maybe we should all meet up again soon maybe check out that British pub in WEM
(can ya tell im homesick lol)
it was really nice meeting you and Linda and always nice to meet others that have been through it

Long time no speak !!!!
You are doing really well, condsidering the short time you've been here. I still get pangs of homesickness every now and then and we've been here 16 months. Good that your little man is settling so well though. Makes it easier on you.
How's he doing at school.? Got any good buddies yet???
We should definately have a girly evening out.
Sounds good to me.
My wallet is just recovering from a v. expensive trip to the Mountains, so leaving it until November would help me out. $$$$$$$$$
Talk to you soon
Deb x
