Hi

Being reading through this brilliant forum. Found it to be very informative and often very humerous. All the information you need/want to know but the guide books don't tell you!
Myself, husband and teenage son and daughter are planning on moving to Canada in August 08. We've got a recce trip booked in March to Nova Scotia but are also considering Ontario.
Having eventually bored friends and family completely with our Canada plans, hoping to chat to others who have already moved or are going to move to Canada.
Cheers,
Sarah

Welcome!
I know exactly what you mean about boring family and friends... I can manage to steer ANY conversation to Canada. As long as there's someone to listen (even if they've dropped off) then I can talk for England and Canada!
We're also hoping to move over to Nova Scotia but not 100% made up our minds - we're planning to go for a nosey round later next year.
It's frustrating because we want to go NOW!
Hope to speak to you soon

We moved from Wales to Saskatchewan in September and are very happy. I hope everything goes will with you. You give the date Aug 08, have you already got your PR or a Work Permit?

Thanks to everyone for the welcome. The reason we hope to be in Canada in Aug 08 is because my husband retires from the Policeforce then and thats the earliest date we can get there. Ideally we would like the kids to start school in Sept 08 but I know pulling everything together and getting the timing right is going to be a nightmare. Hubby, David, was born in Toronto so he and our kids all have dual citizenship
Very handy! I have a family class sponsorship application in at the moment which hopefully will have come through by Aug. Hubby moved to the UK from Canada when he was 9 yrs old so we'll be as new to Canada as anyone and needing all the help and advice we can get.

Thanks for the welcome Sue. We've also got our house here in S Wales to sell. We'll have to buy a place in Canada asap because we're bringing two large dogs with us and I don't think there are many suitable rental properties that will take them.
I can feel the stress rising already....

I am not sure whether to take lots or just start again there, we do have a few special things we will prob get a small container,

Hi Sue and anyone else who may be reading,
Our dogs are a cross Collie/Lurcher and a Dobermann. The Collie is really sweet natured and about twelve years old. We had her from a rescue centre when she was about two. The Dobermann is a year old, super friendly, boistrous puppy. We plan to put in for a quote with one of the pet transportation companies to see how much they would charge to take them to Canada. I know from reading others experiences it's going to cost several thousand pounds. We're also going to try pricing transporting them ourselves. I'm not too worried about the paperwork side of things but it's the practicalities such as how do we get the dogs from the airport in Canada to wherever we are staying? Do hire car companies allow dogs in their vehicles? It's something we'll have to find out
. (Sorry, not trying to ask specific questions on Meet and Greet board, just voicing my concerns). We will probably have to kennel the dogs for a few weeks in either the UK or Canada until we can get a place to stay sorted out. Cheers,
Sarah

Hiya Sarah
We recentlytransported our dogs- a whippet and a yorkie.
We did it all ourselves and saved a small fortune. We flew with Air Canada and the 2 cost us £245.00
Providing each dog incl. their container did not weigh more than 35kg you can check them in with you as excess luggage at the airport. All we had to do was make sure they had a rabies cert. and a fit to travel cert. from their vet.
Simple and they had minimal upset.
Good luck.

Thanks for the info. That's really encouraging, both financially and for minimal upset to the dogs. I think if we can manage it, we'll do what you did.
Cheers,

how are you doing over there,
interesting to know you found it easy, how did the dogs cope with being shut in so long, maybe we could start a new thread on recent transport ?
wish you all the best
