Henry vacuum cleaner
#1
Hi,
I am thinking to buy one of these and have it mailed from the UK to Canada as it seems significantly cheaper, even taking tax/duties into account plus postage than if I bought a similar model in Canada. I am thinking the 110V version would work. Is my thinking on all of this right?
Part of it is some kind of nostalgia. I had a Henry in the UK and it was great. They retail at about £100 to £150 in the UK. The cheapest I could find one in Canada was about $399 before tax.

Thank you!

Yes, the 110v version will be the one for Canada
However at the upper of your price range in pounds, £150 is currently C$258 at the "mid rate", or more likely about $270 be the time you have the fees and the bank's credit/debit card exchange rate, then say £30/$50 for packing and shipping (which I suspect is probably on the low side), plus import duty, say (my guess) another $30, and you have already reached C$350 ..... for a product that effectively has no warranty. Good luck trying to return it and get it repaired or replaced if it doesn't work properly.
In conclusion, IMO It would be more trouble than its worth.

Thank you as I had forgotten about the warranty issue. Not really returnable is it?!
It might make better sense then, to suck it up and just pay the $399 + tax if I really want one.
My costing was based on:
£114 for the Henry
£36 for the postage (as quoted on the website)
I'd use my UK credit card.
CA$43.94 taxes (calculated using CBSA site):

'What about'- if you can wait to see if the price drops on 'Black Friday'
Have you looked stateside to see if they're available there, factor in the FX?

They are cheaper in the US (I think but maybe not and I'm getting confused by the exchange rate), but can you get them sent to Canada? They'll always be subject to the European import charge as I believe they're all made in the UK.
I'll do more research.

You could buy one in the US and not pay duty if you took a weekend trip there....

Thank you. Where from in the US do you think?
Any idea which stores I should start looking at?

I am doubting that they will be on sale.
They are not widely available here (or at least I haven't found them to be so).
These were the most reasonable I found:
https://www.amazon.ca/Numatic-Top-Se...f_rd_i=desktop
Buy Numatic Henry PPR200 Commercial Dry Vacuum from Canada at McHardyVac.com
and I just called a local place in North Van who are quoting $399 + Tax.
They're about £100 in the UK.

Just checked prices on Amazon.com - $399!! So more expensive with the current exchange rates.
Depending on the local store any chance of haggling?

I had forgotten the Henry vacuum, they were very cute.

A mini one could satisfy the nostalgia part.
