I am a hardened tea drinker and have been buying the regular typhoo orange pekoe tea - tastes fine to me. Can not work out why the chocolate tastes so bad though - bit gutted about that! I know its not proper milk but still..... It even negatively effects the taste of cookies and muffins etc.
Wish I'd shipped over a crate of Galaxy!

Hey Nik,might be able to help you there,we are hoping to come over this summer, late July and we are heading to see friends in West Bank in the first few weeks of landing,we will be loading supplies in cases and container, one being a large box of galaxy,as every one we know there misses it,so am sure we could spare a bar or 2, We have been told our 20ft container is only 3/4 full so plenty of room for supplies,

Does anybody know if you can take in fish-based (not meat) dried cat food, by any chance? My cats will be stressed enough by the flight over, so I'd like to give them some continuity for the first week or two, and their brand isn't available over there.

Thanks

Hi Alex,

I'm already up for growing my own veg & baking bread. What's the climate like for tea production???

Hi
We recently cleared customs in Vancouver, using the shipping agents over here. The shippers specifically asked about:
- alchohol, in which case you need a liquor licence, which costs $95, plus a small amount (Can't remember how much) per bottle
- outdoor equipment which we had to list and confirm we'd cleaned and disinfected
- any food items, and specifically, meat products, fish products, canned and dried foods, plant products of any kind including dried (so herbs I guess). If we had any of the previous items we had to list them out. Luckily we didn't, as they said that if you list out food it tends to attract the attention of the agricultural department guys.

This is only our experience, but might be worth a word with your shippers to check latest views before you ship.
As it happens, we declared our wines and spirits, and outdoor stuff, and it all went through on the nod.

Wish I had brought T bags though, and Jenny, our 11 year old is having severe withdrawal symptoms from Galaxy......!

I have bought 4 bix boxes of tea bags to take with us but now I am worried that they may not be allowed. I've also packed 2 large jars of marmite!! (Sorry, I don't mean to start te Marmite debate again!)

We've got a 40' container so I may as well fill it. Am I allowed to take this?

Also can I take other dried food that won't spoil on the journey? Pasta, flour, pulses etc? I just don't want to throw it all away.

The importance of obeying the rules regarding foodstuffs cannot be over-stressed. I saw a woman at Pearson get nailed to the wall by Customs because she had a salami in her suitcase. I've seen Agriculture Canada guys with sniffer dogs in the baggage hall at Ottawa. I don't even want to think about what might happen if I ticked the "yes, I've been to a farm in the last two weeks" box on the landing card.

That's the impression I got too - and rightly so.

If I was about to ship now, I'd check with the shippers and get hold of the fast track forms they use with customs. If you do decide to take any foodstuffs, put it all in one box and make sure that the shipper knows which one it is so, at least then if Customs have a problem, they only have one box to open. The fast track form lists down exactly what you'll be asked. I don't think I kept a copy, but I'll take a look.

Fortunately we were okay and didn't have anything which was a problem.

Hey Michelle
That would be great - if you are sure you can spare some! PM me when you arrive.
So is your plan to fill 1/4 of a container with chocolate bars? You'll be SO popular!
I went out today on a chocolate hunt. In a specialist deli I found an orange flavoured frys chocolate cream - which tastes OK. They also had some swiss named chocolate bars - but alas even they were not proper milk. Should our funds support it, I will continue the hunt!!! We may have nowhere to live, no jobs or other source of income but its important to get ones priorities right!
Nik
