Isnt that the definition of a 'walk in clinic' - no need to have those doctors as your family doctor but come in, be seen, get your prescription?

Where medical history and treatments can be recorded to assist in further treatments.
You just can't ring a Dr's doorbell, introduce yourself and ask for a script.

ok, really quickly as i have a kitchen to clean up after thanksgiving dinner... ok, a doctor has a licence to prescribe drugs. whether you are his patient and liscensed in his clinique or not . infact , not all doctors have clinics , so you might want to bear that in mind... he has a license to prescribe medication . this is just one of his many tasks relating back to his medical license. now , a doctor must also assess the person who comes to him with a complaint ie past medical history , etccc etccetcc...so i am not saying that someone can just call up a doctor and get a prescription which is why i said that the poster who needs help should be in my area( which he is i just found out) . this being because i have doctor friends whom i can call at any time who help me . i describe mine or the kids symptoms and they trust my jugement as a nurse, and they know me personally. because yes, if i hadnt been assessed they could be liable by prescribing me a drug without seeing me . .. it is nothing big usually an antibiotic... . so, i would want the poster to see the doctor and because he hasnt got insurance , he might be appreciative of mine and the doctors help.
now , he is to tell me his symptoms and i will see if he needs prompt care or if he can wait . if he needs prompt care and i can save him a couple of bucks ... well good for him . if it is more serious i will tell my hubby , who works at the provincial health care head office to speed up his card if he can . If i can get him to a dr friend of mine in my area , and if the doc sees fit , the good doctor needs to just call the pharmacy , give his name and prescribe the drug...the legalities of it would be that he would prescribe the right drug , at the right time , to the right person via the, right route ( oral, etc) and the right dosage.... any doctor with a VALID , RECOGNIZED , medical licence can do this .
this is longer than i thaught... anyway , just trying to help out a fellow brit , thats all... no panic ...sarah

I know many doctors who wouldn't entertain the thought of prescribing drugs outside of the scope of their practice, least of all based on someone saying: "I know this lad on the net ....
I love this line:
"ok, a doctor has a licence to prescribe drugs. whether you are his patient and liscensed in his clinique or not"
You make this sound so clear cut and simple. Do all doctors in Quebec walk around malls with a prescription pad?

Thanks

If you are really worried you shouldn't wait until November, your health is more important than material possessions (I work in an Intensive Care Unit and see proof of this every day). If you do have a problem you can get the necessary treatment, and if it is nothing at least it will put your mind at rest and prevent you being stressed out for the next month. If you need to be referred to a specialist your health cover will probably have kicked in by the time you get an appointment - so start the ball rolling now!!
