Hello!
am going to be in Vancouver from Febuary onwards with a holiday working Visa. Will be then a qualified nurse (I know I can't work in Canada without sitting more exams) but am looking for any kind of work possible.....does anybody have any tips of where to start looking??? I am ready to do anything....
Thanks for any help or ideas you can give me!

A foreign trained nurse can work in Canada once initially meeting requirements and then being registered with CRNBC - this is provided that you meet their requirements for training and practice. You are then able to work on an "interim permit", prior to sitting the CRNE (exam).
If you need more info on this email me and my wife Nicky will be pleased to advise of her own experiences, or check out Healthmatch BC (link below, includes current job openings in all areas of BC plus also more usually available unadvertised) who will advise regarding your career options.

Regards, and good luck.

But, on the BUNAC work visa you most probably have you have to specify that you will be doing this sort of work before your permit is issued and a health check etc is carried out at an extra cost.
I found my job on www.monster.ca
also look at http://jobbank.gc.ca/SearchNJS_en.asp.
A lot of places just advertise in the window. Depending on what work you want of course, these are mostly shops etc. There is a job advert in almost every shop here in Canmore and Banff

I was picking up on the nursing opportunities in Vancouver/BC. All medical workers do require medicals for a work permit (PR has medical checks incorporated into process).

Rich, I think you can still work as a nurse on the BUNAC visa you just have to declare so when you apply is all. Afterall it is just an open work permit issued by the government just set up through BUNAC

how would this work for a BUNAC holder ? On this basis alone, in reality I doubt any single health authority would endorse the application of a candidate who was armed with a BUNAC temporary visa. What would be the point ? It ends "very shortly" from their perspective. Do not underestimate the power of these self-serving regulatory bodies in Canada, especially in BC, where their influence level and control is very high, most certainly in the public sector in general, and in the medical sector in partic. The point I guess I was originally making is that being in Canada with a BUNAC allows applicants to network with organisations such as Healthmatch BC, and directly with health authorities, which from that point onwards might open the door to a job offer of a more permanent/longer term nature. It certainly helps, up to a point, being here in Canada.

I guess that all makes sense, but sometimes all those requirements are bypassed. To give you an example I am a teacher and Alberta have a rule abour temporary workers not being able to teach in Alberta, they have to be PR's canadian citizens or on an exchange.
However where I live in Canmore the education authority told me they would employ me just like that if I had my Alberta Teaching Certificate. They didn't care that i was a temporary worker and only here potentially for 1 year.
I was going to get my credentials assessed before I arrived, it takes 8 months but I knew this a year before I was coming out anyway, therefore I would have gone straight into employment here. I decided not to teach as I wanted a change of jobs to look at the pros and cons.
On another note, the company that are employing me know I am here on a 1 year BUNAC work visa but that didn't stop them giving me a job and paying me over $50,000.
So sometimes it works out differently to the way it's written in all those specifications

Some people spend an awful lot of time pi$$ing around or being pi$$ed around chasing jobs they can't ever have a chance of accessing or being messed around by beaurocrats even when legitimately able to apply for jobs. If I can I will try to help prevent some of that time wasting.
As a general rule, the beaurocrats win hands down. Ref the recent sad thread regarding teaching in Ontario.

Thanks very much for your help guys!!!
Well what I have been planning on doing is first coming to Canada with the BUNAC visa and getting any sort of work because as of yet I don't have any experince in the nursing field ( I graduate at Xmas). Also if i have to sit throough the medical it will cost an extra £200 - £300 and can make the process 5-8weeks longer! At the moment I don't care what I do as long as I cán be with my boyfriend. I want to get there as quickly as possible! Then depending on how it works out with him.....(marriage or??) then I will start permenantly looking for work and then start the process with CRNABC and Healthmatch and then go through the medical etc. Haven't got so much figured out yet but just know I want to get to Canada and be sure to find some work of any kind!!!!
Thanks again,
Lotte
PS I checked out the sites for health match and CRNABC so thanks for giving me that info. It was alot of help and helps me think about what I need to do if I want to in the future work as a nurse in BC. Thank you!!!
