Default PAL/NTSC MULTI REGION DVD CONVERTER - Problem Resolved.

I have a large collection of UK PAL DVD's and having been looking into the best solution for taking them to Canada as I did not want to get rid of them. I have found a devise that converts PAL to NTSC in any region and plays it onto an NTSC TV. It also works the other way and can convert NTSC to PAL and play on a PAL TV (For Canadians/US coming to UK). It is also multi-voltage 110v or 240v so can be used in either continent without adaptors. The price is £39.99 + delivery. It is found on the following page and described as below.

SLIM AND PORTABLE DVD PLAYER OUTPUTS NTSC AND PAL. REFVD-EB-DVD207

Hope this helps.

You can also use the LG LDA 530 on sale at Futureshop for $79.99 to play PAL dvd's. It just needs a small firmware update at then it will play all region disc's. I have a lot of Uk dvd's to and was converting them over useing software( takes too long )

Firmware link http://dvx9900.altervista.org/index_en.htm

We recently bought a no name from the homeshow in Vaughn, it plays everything inclusing the ones we brought from the UK, and it only cost $49:99 Canadian.

Small yes! But you can move it round the house when you want to different TV's in different rooms,or even take it away in your caravan.... if you have one. And it's not much more expensive than a voltage converter! That's a real plus!

Little confused as to why you need a "convertor". All dvd players are set up to play dvds from all regions. Manufacturers just code them to a specific region but you can unlock 99% of them using your remote! Check out this site:

I have been in the US for 5 years and have an NTSC tv but can play my UK dvds with no problems and no convertor...

My experience is different. We went to Canada in April and I took my small portable UK PAL DVD player and connected it to a Canadian NTSC TV put on a PAL DVD and the picture was unwatchable. Does your TV read both NTSC & PAL and convert automatically? Some do. I have been told that getting a TV like this is very expensive.

Right, but had you set up your dvd player to play any region, then it would automatically convert the signal (at least mine does!) Our tv is only NTSC - I checked that out when we were considering whether to get things on video or dvd. Turned out a lot better to get dvds - we even get things recorded to dvd in the UK and they play fine..

Are we still talking about converters here?

The region and signal are two different things.

Most dvd players available now convert NTSC to PAL and vice-versa, obviously yours does this. It wasn't always the case.

Applying a patch to allow the machine to play all dvds is something different.

Our Philips DVD player bought here converts the signals, but I had to apply a simple fix to make it non-region specific.

Our Philips DVD recorder (which we shipped from the UK) plays all DVDs from any region but does not convert the signal from PAL to NTSC. Hence a scrolling B&W picture.
