Hi marks family and welcome to BE

What kind of electrician is your hubby
We are in alberta and there is quick ways in to different areas depending on experience and if your hubby is industrial or construction......

If you need any advise then feel free to PM us, we have been here 3weeks and we are loving it, we have 3 kids and they have all settled well

Hubby is just reading up for his exams, all electricians have to have a licence, this can be done once you arrive, although you wll need to go through AAIT for them to say that he is qualified

Hope that helps

Hello the marks family my hubby is also an electrician and has passed the red seal exam. He had to prove 8775 hours plus 72 months of work experience and this had to be confirmed by references from previous employers. tradesecrets website is very good and gives information on the process. We are in Calgary and have been for a month. My hubby is working as a commercial electrician and thankfully, has passed his red seal exam. The work is very different from the UK and if you can get your approval to write from AIT and are successful to find a job they will give you 6 months to work on the job before you take the exam. You have 3 attempts and then if you fail then you could be sent back as you are unable to work in the trade without the license. If you have any questions please feel free to PM me and I will try to help.

Good luck and welcome to BE.

Hi

I am a UK based Electrician with almost 6 years experience, Apprenticeship (NVQ), City and Guilds 16th edition, inspection and testing, pat testing

I am pretty confident that they would let me sit the exam based on that, or am i to be disappointed?

I have recently found this website and am so glad i did as you all seem very helpfull and the threads on here seem to make sense of an otherwise confusing and stressful process.

I intend to pop over to Canada and get my paperwork assessed, then return to sit the exam. After that i want to start a serious job hunt and get there on a job offer rather than waiting years for the skilled worker process.

From my research i have found that i can get the Red Seal certif by visiting any of the offices in Ontario and sitting the exam there. However, i want to move to BC so is it better to sit the exam in Vancouver?

Any info regarding the exam, job prospects or the general process would be much appreciated

Paul

Hi

i think like alberta you can get accessed through AIT from the uk, then sit your exam within 6mths of being here.
We came over nipped into an office and they faxed through edmonton
You need the hours which is around 7000 in the trade as well

We also did the job interviews whilst here and secured a job, he did get offered more but went with the company that felt right.

If you need any advise feel free to PM us, we are in lethbridge in alberta and i know they cry out for good electricians all the time.
Ontario is good, but we went round in circles with them for a long time, depends on where you want to be and your time line

Good luck
