Re: Hello Newbie here!!!!
Hello
I would like to wish you a very big welcome to BE. :) The first place to start is the wiki section heres a link http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Category:Canada Just out of interest and to help other members, what do you and your hubbie do your a living. This is one of the better and quicker ways of getting in, if your profession is part of a labour shortage. Check this page out http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Labour_Shortages-Canada and this http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Catego...under_Pressure Hope this helps Cassie |
Re: Hello Newbie here!!!!
Hi Hannah, Danny, Dane, Keira and Ruby,
Just echoing both Cassie's warm welcome to BE and her very sound advice on where to start your reading. Hope all your plans work out. Kind regards, Eamonn & Janet. |
Re: Hello Newbie here!!!!
thanks very helpful.
I am not currently working as the children are still young, my husband is an electrician. |
Re: Hello Newbie here!!!!
An electrician, you could be onto something there.
There is a seperate forum you could look at on BE http://britishexpats.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=97 It isn't just for Canada though so you will have to have a dig around or post there introducing yourself. Your going to have loads of info by the end of today ;) |
Re: Hello Newbie here!!!!
That's great that, thanks!
I will show Danny when he gets in from work. I know nothing about electricians lol. So will both browse through tonight :) |
Re: Hello Newbie here!!!!
I just did a very quick search on the electrician forum using the word Canada this is what it came up with
http://britishexpats.com/forum/searc...archid=1019751 Have fun reading with your hubbie tonight and I hope things go to plan for you all. See you around, this site its very addictive when it takes hold of you. Cassie PS the link should work now, I hope. |
Re: Hello Newbie here!!!!
sorry no it didn't work, thanks for looking anyway.
Had a quick search and found some posts to have a look at. Will let you know how we got on :) |
Re: Hello Newbie here!!!!

Re: Hello Newbie here!!!!
Hello, Hannah, and welcome to the BE forum.
Just to add to the useful information that Cassie has given you ....... Electricians are in demand in some parts of Canada. That should help Danny to get a temporary work permit. The only thing I don't know is whether or not he has enough hours of experience as a journeyman to write the Red Seal challenge exam. I seem to remember that an electrician would need 9,000 hours of experience as a skilled tradesman (time spent in apprenticeship does not count towards this). What raises doubt in my mind is Danny's age. I guess it's possible that he has the experience, but he would have started at a pretty young age if that is the case. Anyway, you will find relevant links in the Wiki article called Skilled Trades-Canada. Cassie already has pointed you to the Wiki section of this website. These are the most important articles for you to read in the beginning: Quick Guide to Canadian Immigration Hope that helps.Immigration Timeline-Canada Work Permit Steps-Canada Canada is different!!! Quick Job Hunting Instructions-Canada x |
Re: Hello Newbie here!!!!
Hello The Marks Family, and welcome to BE, I am a relative newbie to the boards and can tell you it's very addictive, everyone is very friendly and helpful.
I'm sure with your hubby having a trade, you will find it easy enough to get a job in Canada, my hubby is a plasterer and has been offered a job in Vancouver, we are going out there in May/June 2009, we have a son who is 5 and a daughter who is 9 months old. I would also echo what Cassie says and have a good read on the Wiki section, it's very good reading, best thing to do is wait until the sprogs are in bed, make yourself a huge cuppa and get reading lol. Look forward to seeing you round the boards. Laura xx p.s. I would also recommend having a look at 'Getting There's blog, it's fantastic and full of wonderful piccies. Eamonn and Janet, hope you dont mind me plugging your blog but I loved it. |
