Good luck with it all! Vancouver Island is where we want to base ourselves too. Everyone on here has been extremely helpful. Amazing resource this site!
If you don't mind my asking, how have you gone about the whole emigration process? You say you have applied for PR.....does this mean you have a work permit already?

Hello and Welcome to BE Pengy. I too am originally from the North West, a small town called West Kirby on the Wirral Penninsula in Cheshire and later moved to Crosby near Southport when I married. We have been in the Lower Mainland since 1980 and have seen enormous changes over the years. We absolutely love living in BC and both our kids had a wonderful childhood here. They both live in Vancouver and we are in the Pitt Meadows area. This is a great site with all the information you could ever want - if only we had had something like this when we came over! Good luck to you with your plans!

Hi Margaret
Well it really is a small world ! I live on the Wirral in Claughton - grew up in Irby - so know West Kirby really well ! I was there last weekend - some really great restaurants now so easy to eat - followed by a trip to Parkgate for ice cream !!
I'm real excited about moving out there .. but am nervous as I guess you'd expect ! But I'll be picking your brains - and everyone elses ..
Thanks x

Thanks for your replies everybody - you made me laugh at loud at some of your comments !
I'll just give you a little background and then a stat report on my application.
I'm 43 - but look younger !
Single - no kids - degree in childhood and youth studies [also half way through a Masters degree in education] I work with children who have severe emotional and behavioural difficulties and have done for 20 years. Im about to embark on a teacher training course - so I will be ready to start looking for work in Canada in July 2009 - not necessarily as a teacher - I know there is a surplus at the moment but have been doing some research and in 5 - 10 years things will have changed ! I'm being as proactive as I can be at this stage - I'm altering my cv to a resume - I've found the most pertinent websites for my career prospects and keep checking on housing market in the areas I would like to live. As I work in a school I get the hols - so I try to spend a fair proportion of them in BC - mone permitting !!
I filled in my Permanent Resident application last Jan .. it was 'accepted' in May and now just waiting.
I guess ideally I'd like to get a job in Canada with a two or three year contract - so I can get out there and work and build up my new life out there whilst I am waiting for the PR to be approved - or not as the case may be - just being realistic !
Hope that's helped to see where I'm coming from !
Oh and went over the Clatterbridge roundabout today RICH .. not literally of course .. was on the way to Brimstage for a coffee !

I always go to Parkgate for ice cream whenever I go back to the Wirral - it's a tradition! Good luck and keep the faith - it will happen - I am so excited for you too!
