Health Insurance-1st Three Months In Ont
Hi,
I have a friend moving to Ontario soon, and I know that they will not be able to apply for an OHIP card until they are here for 3 months.
Can anyone recommend a company in the UK where they can purchase health insurance for their 1st three months in Ontario? I think that the health insurance they require for their first 3 months is different to just buying travel insurance - can anyone confirm this for me?
Thank You

By medicare do you mean health insurance through your new job?
Typically this only covers only extras on top of what OHIP would cover (like private rooms, physio, dental etc), so yes you need to get special coverage for the first three months. My employer arranged "Foreign Worker Coverage" for me which covered everything until OHIP kicked in. IIRC this was through Canada Life but that was a long time ago now.
