Yep, while on reccie to Ottawa decided to drive through Algonquin park and saw two beaver, a wild turkey, three deer and a big moose by the side of the road.
We got a few pics and my OH isn't as close as she looks to the moose its just really big !!!

Met a guy at the hotel who had just finished camping in the park for two weeks and he hadn't seen a thing  I did not brag too much

Eating wise I prefer Elk over Moose

About this time last year we were driving down to one of the park areas, just out of town at dusk, and we drove past a huge horse - you know the way the mind goes, 'hmmm that's a big horse' and the the shout that nearly makes the husband crash the car 'IT'S A MOOSE, THEY'RE HUGE OMG!' It was one of those moments! And no the camera was not in the car, even though we keep saying we should put the camera in the car:rolleyes:

We saw one around 2 weeks after arriving here, it was just outside Devon Alberta, it was a little country road and it was standing eating at the side of the road, female I think as it was pretty small and no antlers. Of course I made my other half slow right down incase we encountered one in the middle of the road! We always wanted to see one, didn't quite expect to so soon though! :)

Saw 10 of them at the side of the road on a trip to Cape Breton last fall.
Was at sunset and they were at the side of the road just grazing.
Amazing sight

Its a good point...ten times as many people are killed and hurt hitting other, more solid things while trying to avoid the moose on the road. Frankly I suspect you might be better off taking your chances hitting the ungulate.

I am told that the typical moose/vehicle accident whilst driving a car, at least, has you taking out the legs of the moose which flips it into the air before all 300lbs+ lands on top of the passenger area of the car. I think I would do all I could to avoid hitting one short of a head on collision with anything coming the other way.

In the last week in NL a father and son ended up in the ocean after swerving to avoid a moose and a guy was killed in a collision with one. This would have been on a rural road with probably nothing coming in the other direction at the time.

First time in Nouveau Brunswick, we kept seeing signs for mooses, so we kept scrutining the woods/forests by the side of the road... nothing.
When visiting (touristing) the Acadian village near Caraquet I think, on their closing day, the guide told us she had seen one that morning on the car park!... but we didn't see any on that day, despite being one of the only 5 family visiting that afternoon.

The 2nd time we went in Quebec, up to... I forgot the name now, but well up north there near a lake and still we didn't see anything :-( well no mooses that is...

And last we went to Ontario, seen WONDERFUL THINGS THERE!!! but there weren't advertising the mooses anymore, lol, I guess it is a bit too industrialised and build up for them ;)
Mind we saw a stuffed one on the ground level of the CNN Tower... but you know what I mean?

A REAL ONE, IN THE WILD, "GRAZING HAPPILY" maybe?...

Anyone seen that?

Aline
Already thinking of planning holidays once we live in Canada, somewhere where we can do some Moose Spotting,LOL...

I've seen two dead ones - had to go out and take a closer look at them just in case they were the only moose I would ever see. Then saw two grazing near the side of the road, somewhere in Northern Ontario.

Yes saw this one near Ribbon Creek Kananaskis, and two weeks ago saw one just off the road at Bragg Creek, it looked very very thin.

A while ago I googled some stats, ...far more people killed trying to avoid moose than actually killed by hitting them...not sure what that means in the real world as probably far more people avoid moose without incident too, certainly wouldnt want to hit one, it never seems to end well for either party.... better to try and miss, but dont panic??

Maybe we need to hunt the moose to extinction:sneaky:

ICBCs advice:
If the animal is large and you can’t stop in time, brake
firmly and steer to strike the animal at an angle. Let up
on the brake pedal just before hitting the animal. This
will cause the front of your vehicle to rise and reduce the
chance that the animal will come through the windshield.

Right....
