It has absolutely nothing to do with owing the country of Canada anything. It's to do with how we help our less fortunate fellow human beings. If you don't get that then you are one cold hearted individual, IMO anyway.

I'm not the one saying it...
Since I arrived I feel I've been treated really well by all the Canadians I've met plus I've been really lucky in finding a house and work, Canada is treating me very well.
So now I feel like giving something back,

I don't know, but I've tried. I did a couple of years at Crisis at Christmas when in the UK, a year in Hebron in the West Bank at a refugee camp and prison visiting, and the last 11 years assisting the mentally handicapped with outings in France. I hope that I can 'maybe' 'do' something in Canada, but it won't be because they are Canadian. I have been given a bloody great bit of life on a plate. A not great start got better and better, I've been incredibly lucky, but like most of us have had a couple of bad patches - there isn't a day I'm not thankful.

Animal Sanctuaries always need volunteers if you are inclined towards the furry and feathered in need of help.

I try and be as informative and encouraging to people from the UK who are thinking about emigrating to Canada.

So now I feel like giving something back, I think I'm going to join the local volunteer fire service and save people from burning buildings and cats from trees.
My wife wants to volunteer for something too but doesn't fancy being a firelady.
Has anyone else done anything worthwhile?
