Default has anyone done it this way

We have looked long and hard at Canada.Never made a solid decision and now I am really lost.Having been laid off from E.Stobarts in Jan,I have been unemployed since.Applying for job after job and getting no where. The job market here is sown up by agencies and very few employers want a full time driver they have to pension and train up for the impending driver cpc.
So now we are thinking about me coming over solo to get the work in place and house hunt.To get the finance in place ie:-save like mad to then move the familly over next year.
Is there anyone that has done this?
It may sound a bit unconventional but I am so hacked off over here, forever applying and getting nowhere. If your thinking of coming back here to drive then I would think long and hard about it and start applying now(coz a good 90% wont even reply)
We are looking at the New Brunswick area from the coast to Woodstock.
Does any one recommend a company to approach.

I know of people that have done it this way. it is hard and not very secure but it can be done.

You need to find a trucking company which are willing to give you an LMO temporary work permit.

Then like you say you come over and work your butt off. You also apply for your family to come over and then when your ready with your families visas and financially they can then move over.

The downside is that you may suffer sever homesickness if you have no one here and all are in the UK and to earn decent money you are driving nearly 24/7.

But I do know some one at the moment who is doing just that and is actually living in their truck and have no days off.

I have a contact who runs his own trucking company. You can pm me if you want more info.

Don't think it will be better here. If they are not interested in hiring 99% will not reply.

I would say truck driving would be a good bit different here compared to the UK, firstly it's alot larger country so you could find yourself on the road alot more and driving longer distances. Secondly the weather is a little different, winter especially in the likes of Alberta lingers around for a good few months so you would need to be comfortable with driving in those conditions which can be quite severe.

If none of that bothers you though, check out these websites:

http://www.cantruck.ca/iMISpublic/Ho...?Section=Home2

http://www.westcanbulktransport.com/.../opportunities

Westcan had representatives at the last two expat shows we attended, they were hiring foreign workers so they would be worth a contact.

Contact as many companies as you can find here and reply to any relevant job postings. I know truck driving is usually in demand here so you might get lucky with getting an LMO pretty easily or find a company with a pre-approved LMO for foreign workers.

If you fancy a career change the Edmonton Police are currently actively recruiting and accepting applications from overseas (experienced or not), they pay relocation, etc and can nominate you for PR eventually.

Good luck!

Trucking companies I do know that H & R Transport are doing a recruitment in September in the UK but think that that would be Alberta.

Check out the Trucking forum on here - maybe one of the guys on there would know something about it.
