I like the river, and there are a lot more trees in Edmonton.

I'm getting the feeling that after 8 years you're still not convinced by Edmonton?

You could spend your winter coming on BE making multiple posts about how awful Edmonton is?

I did go to Edmonton for 2 nights on my trip to Alberta. It seemed all business and not much else. I was only there for 2 nights though. I think if they could just pick it up and move it closer to Jasper then at least the rockies would be nice and close for the weekends... It's a shame as there seems to be lots of job openings there!

Not sure what everyone has against Edmonton to be honest. Been here a few years and I like it. I agree downtown is pretty soulless and depressing, but south of the river around the university area and Whyte it is very nice. Summer is lovely, especially the river valley, and yeah the winter is too long and too cold but this is Alberta so .. take up cross country skiing or something. I don't really see why one would particularly prefer Calgary as a city to Edmonton except for the fact it is much closer to the mountains, which does make a big difference but Jasper is still a nice long weekend trip from Edmonton.

Winter time you have chinooks which give you some relief, access to ski resorts in BC is much closer. Jasper is no way near as built up as Banff.

Summer I think there is more going on, stampede, music festivals. More routes to fly from YYC.

And roadworks in Edmonton.... hahaha

Edmonton is smellier, dirtier, more industrial, low rise downtown, and you have those hideous low power pylons everywhere. It's a blue collar/government town.

Conversely, Calgary is a white collar city, where most O&G corporations choose to base their headquarters, despite Edmonton being closer to the patch. Also, Calgary has the highest corporate headquarters concentration in Canada. It also has Canadas #2 and #3 largest urban parks (also ranked amongst the biggest in North America).

Same here. Money was the only reason why I sucked it. But those were the good days of O&G.
