Default getting ready

Hello, We are emigrating to Lethbridge, Alberta in a couple of months time and have a few queries before we book the hauliers.

a) Firstly, can we send money from the sale of our house to our son(our sponsor, we are 3 retirees) so he can secure us a new home before we move over?

b) on a less important note, can we bring in unopened boxes of toiletries and perfume we have had as Christmas pressies, if so is there a limit?

c) I believe that as my mother-in-law and myself are on permanent medications we will be eligible to join the Alberta Blue Cross Coverage For Seniors, can some kind person please confirm this?

d) Also, can I just swap my UK driving licence for an Albertan one?

Very many thanks for any advice or help for any answers to my queries.

Gordon and Eileen.

1. Yes
2. There is no limit however the goods are supposed to be used. The odd bottle of unopened perfume toiletries is not a major priority of CBSA.

Good luck on the move. Just out of curiosity, wouldn't you want to choose your own house? I struggle to buy my mum a suitable Christmas present - never mind somewhere to live.

Why not just wire the money direct to the lawyer, that way you can send the exact amount.

If the property is in your name, he would need a power of attorney to sign on your behalf.

Thank you Aviator, spot on. Our son indeed has power of attorney re this house purchase, so direct to the lawyer it could well be. Thank you.
