Default Getting FBI clearance from US.

Hi All

I have applied for my Canadian PR with the CHC in India. I lived in the US for abt 2.5yrs a few yrs ago. Now my question is, how do I obtain a PCC from US. Can I apply for one in the US consulate in India or do I have to send a request directly to FBI in the US. Also pls let me know how long does it typically take to obtain one if I have to directly apply with FBI in US and how long is a PCC valid.

Thanks in advance for any tips.

goamol.

You can check out Buffalo's website (Buffalo being the Canadian consulate based in the US). http://www.dfait-maeci.gc.ca/can-am/...cat=68&did=398 They give an address that you must apply to for fingerprints, but in their introduction they do state that if you're no longer living in the US then you may need to go to your local embassy so it's worth asking them first. Once you have received your reports they are valid for 6 months before they become out of date. If you do apply through FBI rather than through embassy it takes about 3-4 weeks (They say 6-8 on the Buffalo website but ours didn't take that long!)

Hey Crazydaisy,

When you mailed that FBI fingerprint form to the CJIS, did you also enclose a letter stating what you wanted and why you needed it? I'm asking because I mailed that fingerprint form to CJIS about three weeks ago. However, I just followed the instructions I got from the Canadian consulate in Buffalo, so all I did was that I had my fingerprints taken then mailed them to CJIS.

I don't know if what I did was sufficient!

Thanks!
Ihab

I think what we did for fingerprints was enclose a copy of the letter sent from Buffalo asking for fingerprints to be taken, along with the fingerprint cards. I think you should be OK because on the card there was a space asking for details of why prints were being taken so you may have entered 'immigration' in that box.
