flashing green lights

I saw 4 trucks heading in the opposite direction today. They had flashing green lights behind the windscreen. I just thought it was a redneck thing and carried on pootling along the road. I noticed another car pulled over as if the trucks were emergency vehicles.

What were they then? Any ideas??

Apparently they may have been firemen en route to a fire.

I would never have known if you hadn't asked. ;)

I don't think we have anything like that in Alberta.

Many civilian volunteer Search & Rescue vehicles use green lights, not the red & blue of the emergency vehicles.

I saw some flashing red and blue lights in my rear view mirror today when I was doing 160 on the 40 Eastbound.

I thought they might be emergency services, so I sped up to get clear ahead of them.

I'll get my coat.....

In the UK green light are used by medical personal on the way to an accident.

Frankly I think the UK should introduce the "pull over and get the hell out of the way" rules that apply to emergency vehicles here, I think they are a great rule.

Agreed. We got stuck behind a very nasty accident on the 417 on Xmas Eve. People weren't quite pulling over into the ditch to get out of the way but it wasn't far off.

Apparently Alberta does have something like this, but rather than amend the Alberta Traffic Act the government has given individual municipalities the right to enact a by-law that allows green flashing lights on volunteer fire-fighters private vehicles.

A strange way of doing things to my mind.

Well, we have that rule here in Australia, but some people still continue driving or get in a right hand lane to turn. Then the emergency vehicle has no way of passing if there's heavy traffic. I think people panic, especially if they know they'll be holding up traffic until the emergency vehicle passes, and they don't know what to do.
